0 completed records

Select Symbol, Close Date and Net P&L to enable summaries. Only valid dates and finite net results count. 0 entered rows excluded.

Use positive unit quantities and one currency. Blank fees mean zero. A typed result overrides automatic calculation until cleared. Hidden inputs are retained and can still affect calculations; reselect their columns to inspect them.

Incomplete rows remain in the Trade Log, but are excluded from summaries. No autosave: download before leaving. Exported values and summaries do not update inside Excel.

3. Download Your XLS

Three letters. No currency conversion.

Export sheet name: Trade Log. Names are sanitized and reserved names use Trade Log. Summary sheets appear only when eligible records exist.

Use XLS when you need a legacy workbook

This tool writes the BIFF8 .xls format. The Trade Log holds your selected columns and entered records. Optional Performance and Daily Summary sheets contain numeric snapshots of eligible closed trades. They contain no formulas, macros or charts. Check the file in the application where you will use it.

For a modern value export, use the XLSX journal generator. For calculations that continue inside a workbook, use the Excel formula template.

Check the inputs before exporting

  1. Pick a preset, then keep Symbol, Close Date and Net P&L selected if you want summary sheets. A preset selects columns; it does not change the pricing model.
  2. Enter Long or Short, positive unit quantity, entry and exit prices, and costs. Prices and fees must use one currency. Missing quantity does not mean one unit.
  3. Check automatic or manually entered results. For a Long trade from 100 to 103 with 10 units and 2 in fees, gross P&L is 30 and net P&L is 28. A stop at 98 gives initial risk of 20 and a net R-multiple of 1.40.
  4. Compare the included-record count with your records, then download. Entries are not saved when you refresh or leave.

Read daily summaries with their limits

Both summaries use the same records: a symbol, valid close date and finite net P&L. Daily totals are sorted by close date; multiple trades on one date are combined. Zero results count in the win-rate denominator. A missing winning or losing group is shown as N/A.

Daily closed P&L drawdown starts from zero and measures declines from the prior peak of cumulative daily net results. It excludes open positions, deposits, withdrawals and intraday changes. It is not account-equity drawdown.

Automatic results use linear unit pricing. Forex lots, contract multipliers, currency conversion, financing, dividends and partial exits are not modeled. Use a verified manual net result or the formula template with explicit unit and FX inputs when needed. These calculations do not predict returns or determine whether a strategy is suitable.

Frequently asked questions

Does the XLS file contain formulas?

No. Calculations run on this page and the workbook contains values. Editing the downloaded trade log will not update its summaries. Use the Excel formula template if you need spreadsheet formulas.

Which trades enter the summaries?

Select Symbol, Close Date and Net P&L. A row counts only when those fields contain a nonempty symbol, a valid calendar date and a finite net result. Zero results count as trades. The daily and performance sheets use the same rows.

How are P&L and risk calculated?

For linear trades, gross P&L is the signed price change times positive unit quantity. Net P&L subtracts entered fees; blank fees mean zero. Return is net P&L divided by entry value, and R is net P&L divided by initial price risk times quantity. Stops must be on the loss side of entry.

What does drawdown mean here?

It is the largest decline from a prior peak of cumulative closed P&L, grouped by close date. It does not measure account-equity drawdown, open-position losses or intraday drawdown. Multiple trades on the same date are combined.

Can I use different markets and currencies?

Presets only select columns. Automatic calculations use unit quantities, not forex lots or futures and option multipliers. Convert all prices, costs and results into one currency yourself. The currency field labels the output; it does not convert amounts.

Is the journal saved automatically?

This page keeps entries in memory while it is open; it has no autosave or broker connection. Download before leaving or refreshing. XLS export is free and requires no account. Check the exported file in your spreadsheet application before relying on it.
