New Journal Entry

What Is a Trading Emotion Journal?

This journal keeps your own descriptions beside outcome labels. Each entry has one emotion and one intensity rating, plus separate spaces for pre-trade thoughts and post-trade reflections. It does not measure a psychological state or verify that the trade occurred.

An emotion group with a higher observed win rate is a starting point for reviewing records, not evidence that the emotion caused those wins. Trade size, market conditions, costs, selective logging and hindsight can change the comparison. This journal has no monetary return field, so winning more often does not establish profitability.

How to Use This Trading Emotion Journal

  1. 1

    Log Before the Trade

Record a trade reference, the date/time, your emotion and intensity. Keep Outcome as Pending until the result is known. Saved notes remain editable; the tool does not independently timestamp or verify when you wrote them.

  2. 2

    Record the Outcome

Edit that same entry after closing the trade and replace Pending with Win, Loss or Breakeven. Apply a consistent definition, including how you treat costs, and record actual rule deviations in your notes.

  3. 3

    Review the Dashboard

Dashboard shows all saved entries, regardless of List filters. The matrix shows counts and rounded win rates by emotion. Check group sizes; pending records do not enter win-rate denominators.

  4. 4

    Review Comparable Records

Compare records with similar strategies and conditions. Check notes against your original trade plan before drawing a conclusion about a pattern. Export JSON backups regularly; the CSV export is for separate spreadsheet review.

What These Records Can Show

Self-Reported Labels

Store the words and intensity rating you chose at the time of entry. These are subjective observations, not a clinical assessment or a measurement of your true emotional state.

Group Counts

Compare counts of your selected emotions and outcomes. A small group can have a high win rate by chance; the tool does not test statistical significance or measure loss size.

Written Review

Use the notes to state what you intended and what happened. The journal does not enforce a pause, block orders or prove that keeping notes improves discipline.

Descriptive Dashboard

See outcome counts, resolved-entry win rate by emotion, intensity by entry and overall average intensity. This is not an average by losing day or an estimate of returns.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does this journal record?

Each record has one self-reported emotion, a 1–5 intensity rating, local calendar date and time, a trade reference, outcome label, and notes. It does not measure emotions, diagnose a condition, fetch trades, or calculate monetary returns.

Can I record thoughts before a trade closes?

Yes. Save with Pending, then edit the same record after the outcome is known. Win rates exclude Pending and include breakeven records in the denominator. Notes are editable, so this is not an immutable audit trail.

How should I interpret the dashboard?

Counts and win rates summarize the labels you entered. They do not show that an emotion caused a result, identify a profitable strategy, or adjust for trade size, costs, market conditions, or missing records. One win and one breakeven in an emotion group give a 50% win rate; a group with only Pending records has no win rate.

Where are entries saved?

This tool uses local browser storage and has no journal upload request or account sync. Storage is not encrypted by this tool and can be read by other users of the same browser profile. Clearing site data, private browsing, or storage limits can remove or prevent saving. Export backups; this is not an absolute privacy or offline-availability guarantee.

Can I restore a backup?

JSON export preserves record IDs and can be imported here. Import accepts up to 8 MiB and a total of 5,000 validated records; an existing ID is kept rather than overwritten. CSV is a spreadsheet export only and cannot be imported here. CSV cells are quoted and formula-like text is prefixed for safer spreadsheet opening; JSON preserves the original text.

Describe Rules for a Testable Script

Turn a written rule into a Pine Script draft with Pineify, then review and test it in TradingView. Strategy tests simulate orders; live execution needs separate integration. Generated code does not remove trading risk or establish an edge, and product access depends on your plan.
