Margin Leverage Calculator
Calculate initial margin and a zero-equity reference for a linear USDT position. This does not predict exchange liquidation.
Position Side
Enter a positive position size and entry price. Leverage must be between 1x and 125x, and results must be finite.
How to Use the Margin Leverage Calculator
- Select the asset pair. A one-time Binance spot quote may populate the entry field; confirm or replace it with your intended entry.
- Choose long or short, leverage, and position size in USDT or asset units. Switching units converts the quantity using the entered price; without a valid price it clears the size.
- Read the initial margin and zero-equity reference. These are model outputs, not an order preview or broker requirement.
Formulas and an Example
For a linear USDT contract: entry notional = asset quantity × entry price; initial margin = entry notional ÷ leverage. Ignoring all costs, position equity reaches zero at entry × (1 − 1/leverage) for a long, or entry × (1 + 1/leverage) for a short.
A hypothetical 10,000 USDT position at 10x uses 1,000 USDT of modeled initial margin. With entry 100, the zero-equity references are 90 for a long and 110 for a short. At 1x, the long reference is zero; that does not imply there is no exchange liquidation risk.
Why This Is Not a Liquidation Calculator
Actual liquidation depends on the venue’s mark price, maintenance-margin tiers, fees, funding, added collateral and account mode. The tool does not fetch those rules or your account balance. Its leverage presets are scenarios, not a statement that every pair or account supports them.
USDT amounts are not labeled as US dollars; no currency conversion is performed. The tool does not recommend a stop price or place orders.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the reference price an exchange liquidation price?
No. It is where the modeled position loss equals initial margin, before maintenance margin, fees or funding. An exchange can liquidate before equity reaches zero. Use its own calculator and account figures.
What price is fetched?
The optional reference is Binance’s spot symbol price ticker, fetched once when the pair changes. It is not a futures mark price, an executed entry or a live stream. You can enter your actual or hypothetical entry price manually.
Does this model cross margin or inverse contracts?
No. It assumes a linear USDT position with initial margin equal to entry notional divided by chosen leverage, no extra collateral and no other positions. Cross-margin and inverse-contract calculations differ.
Is selected leverage the same as account leverage?
No. Selected leverage sets initial margin in this model. Account leverage requires account equity and all relevant exposures, which this tool does not collect.
