Crypto Liquidation Calculator
Calculate a zero-margin price reference for a linear crypto position. This is not an exchange liquidation trigger.
Read the reference before using it
Choose a direction and leverage, then enter an entry price and starting margin in the same quote currency. The pair label does not fetch a quote or change the formula. Margin determines the hypothetical position size, not an additional collateral balance.
Formula and reproducible example
Entry notional = margin × leverage. Quantity = entry notional ÷ entry price. The zero-margin reference is entry × (1 − 1 ÷ leverage) for a long, or entry × (1 + 1 ÷ leverage) for a short. These are linear, constant-quantity calculations before fees.
For an illustrative $50,000 entry, $1,000 margin and 10x leverage, entry notional is $10,000 and quantity is 0.2. The long boundary is $45,000; the short boundary is $55,000. Either adverse move creates a $1,000 gross loss. At 1x, the long boundary is zero; that does not imply liquidation cannot happen earlier.
What is missing from a liquidation calculation?
An exchange uses its contract and account rules, including maintenance requirements. This tool has no maintenance margin input, fee reserve, mark-price feed, risk tier or account balance. It cannot represent cross-margin or portfolio-margin positions, inverse contracts, funding deductions or added collateral. Changing the margin input here also changes position size; it does not simulate topping up an existing fixed-size position.
Bybit distinguishes its bankruptcy-price formulas from the maintenance-margin and mark-price rules described in its USDT contract FAQ. Check the rules for your own exchange and contract. A stop order is not a guarantee against liquidation or execution loss.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this calculate my exchange liquidation price?
No. It calculates the price where the starting margin would be exhausted by gross losses in a single linear position. Liquidation can happen before that boundary. Check your exchange position panel for its liquidation estimate and margin requirements.
Why does changing margin leave the reference price unchanged?
This model sets entry notional equal to margin multiplied by leverage. Increasing margin at fixed leverage also increases position size, so the price boundary stays unchanged. Adding collateral to a fixed-size position is a different calculation and is not modeled here.
Are fees, maintenance margin and cross margin included?
No. The model excludes maintenance margin, risk tiers, trading and funding fees, additional collateral, cross margin, portfolio margin and inverse contracts. Dollar formatting is for the scenario; it does not convert a settlement currency.
Does the selected pair change the calculation?
No. The pair is a scenario label. This tool does not load market prices or exchange contract specifications. Enter the price and margin in consistent quote-currency units.
