What Are SEC Filings?
SEC disclosures serve different purposes: an annual financial report, an ownership transaction report, and a proxy statement answer different questions. This tool lists available filing metadata supplied by FMP and links to original SEC documents. It does not retrieve confidential submissions or guarantee every public filing for a ticker.
How to Search SEC Filings by Symbol
- 1
Enter a Ticker Symbol
Enter a ticker such as AAPL and select Search. Symbols are trimmed and converted to uppercase. Verify the issuer and CIK in the original document, especially after name changes, reorganizations, or ticker reuse.
- 2
Set a Date Range (Optional)
Dates are optional and apply only after Search. Blank dates use provider defaults. The requested range concerns filing records; it is not necessarily the period covered by a financial statement or the date of a reported transaction.
- 3
Browse and Export Results
Each provider page contains up to 50 rows. Column sorting and CSV export affect that page only. A full page enables a request for the next page, not proof that another 50 rows exist. The endpoint does not supply a total count.
Common SEC Filing Types Explained
Annual Report (10-K)
A Form 10-K is an annual report used by domestic reporting companies. It includes audited financial statements, management discussion, and risk disclosures. Check the fiscal period, amendments, and issuer-specific filing obligations.
Quarterly Report (10-Q)
Form 10-Q normally covers the first three fiscal quarters and includes unaudited financial statements. The annual 10-K follows the fiscal year-end; a filing date should not be confused with its reporting period.
Current Report (8-K)
Form 8-K covers specified current events. Most required disclosures are due within four business days, but exceptions apply. Check the item number, event date, and exhibits before interpreting the announcement.
Insider Trading (Form 4)
Form 4 reports changes in ownership by certain insiders, including officers, directors, and holders of more than 10% of a registered equity class. Most transactions must be reported within two business days. Transaction codes distinguish purchases, sales, grants, and other changes.
Proxy Statement (DEF 14A)
DEF 14A is a definitive proxy statement used for shareholder voting matters. Its contents depend on the solicitation and may cover directors, compensation, proposals, or transaction terms. It is not limited to routine annual meetings.
Institutional Holdings (13F)
Form 13F concerns institutional managers meeting the $100 million threshold in Section 13(f) securities, not simply total assets. It is a delayed holdings snapshot, not a complete portfolio or trade log. A stock ticker search is not a holdings search across all managers.
Why Use Our Free SEC Filings Search Tool?
Search by Ticker Symbol
Use a ticker as a starting point, then compare the returned CIK and document with the issuer you intended. An empty page may reflect provider coverage or an exhausted page range.
Date Range Filtering
Separate the event date, financial period, filing date, and accepted timestamp. This prevents an old reporting period from being treated as fresh operating news.
Free CSV Export
Download this page's metadata for a research log. The export contains links, not the underlying document text or every historical filing.
Direct EDGAR Links
Open the supplied index to inspect available documents and exhibits. Missing links remain blank. Verify claims in the source document rather than treating this table as an SEC endorsement or an investment signal.
