What is a Stock Quote?
A stock quote provides a snapshot of a security's current trading data, including its latest price, daily price change, trading volume, and key metrics like market capitalization and moving averages. Stock quotes describe an observation rather than an executable offer. This free tool queries supported symbols through Financial Modeling Prep; listing coverage and data delays vary.
The response can include price, percentage change, volume, day and year ranges, market capitalization and moving averages. Fields can be missing. Check the quote timestamp and exchange; this endpoint does not identify currency, and the table does not convert currencies or add USD labels to international listings.

Understanding Stock Quote Data
Each stock quote contains several important data points that help investors evaluate a stock's current performance and trend:
- Price & Change: The provider-reported price and how much it has moved (in quote units and percentage) since the previous close. Green indicates a gain; red indicates a loss.
- Volume: The total number of shares traded during the reported session. Volume alone does not confirm direction or future returns.
- Day Range (Day Low / Day High): The lowest and highest prices reached during the reported trading session.
- 52-Week Range (Year Low / Year High): The lowest and highest prices over the past 12 months, which are historical reference values rather than guaranteed support or resistance.
- Market Cap: The total market value of a company's outstanding shares, calculated as share price multiplied by shares outstanding.
- 50-Day & 200-Day Moving Averages: Historical price references supplied by the provider. Comparing price with an average does not establish a profitable entry or validate a strategy.
