Search SEC Company Records by Name

Enter a full or partial company name to search provider company records

Company records are supplied by FMP and may be cached for ten minutes. This lookup does not return individual 10-K, 10-Q, or 8-K documents. Missing fields appear as a dash.

A company-name lookup helps resolve a name to a filing entity before reading its disclosures. This page requests company records from Financial Modeling Prep through Pineify; it does not query SEC EDGAR directly. It shows available identifiers and contact fields, rather than a list of 10-K, 10-Q, or 8-K documents.

How to Use This SEC Filings Search Tool

  1. 1

    Enter a Company Name

Enter a full or partial name such as Berkshire. Similar names can refer to different funds, subsidiaries, or operating companies. Try a more specific legal name if the results do not identify the entity you intended.

  2. 2

    Verify the Filing Entity

Compare the name, CIK, symbol, and any supplied address. Click a CIK to open the SEC company browser and verify the filer against an original document. A name match alone is insufficient.

  3. 3

    Export and Analyze

Export this page CSV saves the current page of up to 50 rows. Refresh requests the submitted input again and may return the same ten-minute cached response. Import identifiers as text to preserve leading zeros.

Company Record Fields Explained

CIK

CIK Number

The CIK identifies a corporate or individual filer on SEC systems. The table displays ten-digit padding; it is not a stock identifier, credit rating, or SEC approval of an investment.

SIC

SIC Code

SIC is a classification of a company's principal business activity. Use a supplied code as a starting point for peer research, then confirm that the companies actually have comparable operations.

IND

Industry Title

The industry title describes the supplied SIC classification. The field can be absent or dated and does not summarize all of a diversified company's business segments.

SYM

Ticker Symbol

A symbol is shown when available. A private fund or other filer may have no exchange ticker, and a single legal entity may be associated with multiple securities. Confirm the security separately.

ADR

Business Address

The provider may supply a business address taken from company information. It can differ from an incorporation address or current headquarters. Check a recent filing before relying on it.

TEL

Phone Number

A supplied phone number is a contact field, not a verified investor-relations line. Check the company's official website before using it.

Why Use Our Free SEC Filings Company Search?

Resolve Entity Identity

Resolve ambiguous names to CIKs and follow the SEC link for source documents. Finding an identifier does not establish compliance or validate the issuer's claims.

Industry Classification

A supplied SIC code can help organize a research list. Missing or broad classifications require further review rather than an invented industry label.

Free CSV Export

Download the displayed rows for notes or comparison. The export contains metadata, not filing text, exhibits, or the complete search result across pages.

No Registration Required

Use the public form without signing in. Provider errors, missing fields, and limited coverage remain possible; an empty search is not proof that a company has no SEC record.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the SEC Filings Company Search by Name tool.

    • What does a name search return?

It retrieves FMP company records with a name and CIK plus available symbol, SIC classification, business address, and phone fields. It does not return individual filing documents or a complete filing history. Verify the intended entity in SEC EDGAR.

    • What does the CIK identify?

The SEC uses the Central Index Key to identify corporate and individual filers. This table pads valid CIKs to ten digits. A CIK identifies a filer, not a particular stock share class or a regulatory endorsement.

    • Why can symbol or SIC fields be blank?

Not every filing entity has an exchange ticker, and the provider may omit classifications or contact details. A dash means unavailable data; it does not establish that the entity has no business activity or filings.

    • Is this public lookup free?

The page requires no Pineify subscription or sign-in. Searches pass through Pineify to FMP and depend on provider availability and coverage. It is not an exhaustive search of every SEC entity.

    • What does the CSV export contain?

Export this page CSV downloads the displayed page of up to 50 company records with the same seven fields. It does not download original SEC documents or all pages together. Import CIK and SIC columns as text to retain leading zeros.

    • How current are the results?

Pineify caches this FMP response for ten minutes. Refresh can return that cached response, and upstream records can be older. Confirm current legal names, classifications, and contact details in original filings or the company website.
