Exchange-rate assumptions: units per 1 USD

Synthetic starting values, not quotes. For example, JPY 150 means 1 USD = 150 JPY. USD stays fixed at 1. Replace all relevant inputs with consistent rates; Reset restores the examples.

Values use your editable assumptions, with synthetic defaults. They may differ materially from current prices or broker conversions; spreads, fees and slippage are excluded. Standard Lot = 100,000 units, Mini Lot = 10,000 units, Micro Lot = 1,000 units.

Calculate a movement in quote currency first

Pip size × base-currency units × number of pips gives the movement magnitude in the quote currency. Multiply by account units per USD / quote units per USD to convert it. Positive pip counts show magnitudes, not directional profit or loss.

For a synthetic EUR/USD position of one standard lot, one pip is 0.0001 × 100,000 = 10 USD. For USD/JPY, one pip is 1,000 JPY; with an assumed 150 JPY per USD, this is about 6.67 USD. These examples exclude trading costs.

Use consistent conversion inputs

Select the account currency, enter a standard-lot size and a nonnegative pip count, then update the relevant units-per-USD rates. The standard, mini and micro columns remain comparable, and the final column uses your custom lot size. Results update automatically.

A pip is a convention, not necessarily the smallest tradable tick. Broker lot sizes and contract specifications can differ. This worksheet assumes standard FX units and one conversion basis; it does not calculate leverage, margin requirements or a guaranteed stop-loss outcome.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a pip?

For the FX pairs listed here, a pip is 0.0001 quote-currency units, or 0.01 when JPY is the quote currency. A broker may display finer fractional-pip ticks. Verify the contract specification; this tool does not cover metals, crypto or nonstandard CFDs.

How does currency conversion work?

First multiply pip size by base-currency units and pip count. Then multiply by account-currency units per USD divided by quote-currency units per USD. When quote and account currencies match, that factor is one.

Are these live rates?

No. Initial exchange rates are synthetic examples, not current or timestamped quotes. Edit the units-per-USD inputs using rates appropriate to your calculation. All displayed pair cross rates and pip values use those same assumptions; actual broker bid/ask conversion and fees may differ materially.

What does one lot mean here?

Standard, mini and micro columns use 100,000, 10,000 and 1,000 base-currency units respectively. Custom size is in standard lots. For EUR/USD, 100,000 units times 0.0001 gives 10 USD per pip before costs.

Is this a stop-loss risk guarantee?

No. The table estimates a movement magnitude under constant exchange-rate assumptions. It does not include spread, slippage, commissions, financing, margin or liquidation. A stop order does not guarantee its execution price.
