Compare sector returns within a dated snapshot
This table displays the provider’s average percentage price change for a sector/exchange pair. It is not a sector ETF return, a total-return index, or a measure of money entering a sector. The response does not include constituent counts, weights, or a full calculation method, so comparisons need that limitation in view.
How to use the date and export controls
- Select a supported trading date and click Load Data. Leaving it blank sends no date parameter; check the date the provider actually returns. Weekends, holidays, or unsupported dates can return no rows.
- Compare sectors within the same exchange and date before comparing across exchanges. A sector name can describe different sets of listed companies. The page does not normalize that composition difference.
- Use the table pagination to inspect additional rows. Export This Page CSV saves only the current page of up to 50 records, with date, sector, exchange, and average change. Missing values remain blank.
Interpret percentages and missing values
A hypothetical +1.25% means a reported average gain of 1.25 percentage points for that observation, not a 125% return. A negative value is a decline. Zero is a reported unchanged value; a dash means unavailable. The table preserves provider values and does not recalculate averages from individual stocks.
Sector leadership is a question to investigate
One sector outperforming another on a single day is a relative-performance observation. To study a rotation hypothesis, gather a consistent series, define the ranking and holding period in advance, and account for implementation costs. This page neither performs that test nor identifies investor flows or future winners.
Sector definitions and constituent mixes matter. Technology may include software and semiconductor companies; Healthcare may include drug developers and service providers. Those businesses can respond differently to events even within one sector. Read the provider’s classifications rather than assuming every company follows the same cycle.
Data coverage and timing
Data comes from FMP’s sector-performance-snapshot endpoint. The application caches requests for five minutes. Refreshing does not guarantee a new provider observation, and historical coverage is not unlimited. The table’s returned date is the relevant date label; this page has no intraday update timestamp or automatic trading capability.
