What this ESG ratings lookup shows
The tool requests rating records for one ticker from Financial Modeling Prep. Each available row identifies a company, fiscal year, provider rating label, and industry-rank text. It does not calculate a new rating or return a complete environmental, social, and governance scorecard.
Read a record without importing another provider’s scale
ESG methodologies differ in their objectives, covered issues, weights, and comparison groups. For example, MSCI describes its own ratings as industry-relative grades from AAA to CCC. That does not establish that a label returned by this endpoint follows MSCI’s methodology. This page therefore preserves the supplied text and uses neutral styling instead of inventing a leader/laggard or minimal-risk interpretation.
A rating is also different from a credit rating, a measure of a company’s total environmental impact, or a forecast of shareholder returns. The response does not establish that a higher-looking letter means lower investment risk or better future performance.
How to use the table
- Enter one ticker and choose Search, or press Enter. Coverage can vary by company and year.
- Check the applied symbol above the results. Editing the input does not relabel a table already loaded for another ticker.
- Read the fiscal year, rating label, and rank together. Refresh repeats the applied symbol; Reset requests AAPL again. The service may return a response cached for 24 hours.
- Use the table pages to inspect all loaded rows. Export CSV saves that loaded set, including rows outside the current page; it does not retrieve more historical years.
What an industry rank can and cannot say
A hypothetical rank of “2 out of 6” is preserved as provider text. It does not establish that the comparison set includes every company in that industry, that the classifications match another provider’s, or that the six companies were rated using information available on the same date. Compare ranks only after confirming the underlying universe and methodology.
Fiscal year is not a publication timestamp
The fiscal-year field identifies the period associated with the record. It does not tell you when the rating became public or what investors knew at a historical trading decision. This endpoint does not provide a verified original-release vintage here, so the table is unsuitable as a point-in-time backtest input without additional evidence.
A change between years can prompt further research, but the response does not explain causation. Company disclosures, coverage changes, new classifications, and methodology revisions can all matter. Missing data is displayed as missing; an empty response is not evidence of a low rating.
Continue with the underlying company disclosures
Use a rating record as a pointer to questions about the business. Review the issuer’s filings and sustainability disclosures, then verify which issues the rating provider measures. This lookup has no investment recommendation, portfolio suitability assessment, brokerage connection, or automatic ESG-to-Pine integration.
