Use classification as a research starting point
The SEC publishes Standard Industrial Classification codes describing the business activity in filing records. A code can help assemble a preliminary peer group, but it does not capture every business segment, geographic exposure or source of revenue. Sharing a code does not establish direct competition or a diversified portfolio.
Search the loaded batch
- The page requests provider page 0 with a limit of 1,000. It does not fetch subsequent provider pages. The displayed count is the loaded batch, not the size of the SEC universe.
- Search symbol, company name, CIK or industry title using case-insensitive text matching. The separate SIC field performs prefix matching: 60 can include multiple codes beginning with 60, while 6021 narrows that prefix.
- Read 20 filtered rows per display page. Export CSV includes all matching rows in the loaded batch. Clear filters to return to the loaded list.
- Refresh re-requests the same provider batch through Pineify. The server caches it for one hour; it is not a live EDGAR search. For an absent company or an important classification, verify the filer directly in SEC EDGAR.
Preserve identifiers and verify dates
CIKs identify SEC filers and are not stock tickers. Import CIK and SIC columns as text to preserve leading zeros. An address is a provider field, not a verified current contact channel; the response contains no filing-as-of date. Address punctuation is preserved instead of being rewritten by a guessed parser.
The SEC list identifies 6021 as National Commercial Banks and 3826 as Laboratory Analytical Instruments. These are classification examples, not a claim that all such companies appear in this batch. A zero-result search means only that no loaded row matched.
SIC and NAICS serve different classification contexts
NAICS became the U.S. federal statistical standard in 1997 and has a hierarchy through six digits. SEC records still use SIC. Do not compare a SIC code with a NAICS code as if equal numbers meant the same industry; use the appropriate published crosswalk and methodology. This directory does not convert them.
