Formula Semantics, Refresh Permissions and Brokerage

TC2000 vs. Thinkorswim: Scan Rules, Refresh & Cost

TC2000 and thinkorswim both support custom technical screens. The important differences include condition syntax, refresh permissions, data coverage and broker workflow. Compare equivalent rules before judging the resulting lists.

Core Differentiation

Choose by the Required Screen and Account Workflow

TC2000 Tasks

Conditions, watchlists and chart layouts

  • Filters built from chart conditions, libraries or PCF formulas, with plan-dependent refresh
  • PCF expressions whose lookback, offset and smoothing must be checked explicitly
  • Saved chart and watchlist layouts with multi-monitor features on eligible plans

Thinkorswim Tasks

Stock Hacker, chart studies and Schwab execution

  • Broker order entry with product-specific approvals, account requirements and trading costs
  • thinkScript chart studies, strategy simulations and scan conditions with different context restrictions
  • No platform subscription charge for Schwab clients; specific products and data may have fees

Practical Workflow

Reconcile Definitions Before Comparing Results

Different lists can follow from different rules, sessions or observation times even when both products calculate correctly.

1

Step 1: Match the Conditions and Data

Use the same listing universe, indicator variant, bar interval, completed-bar policy and session. Record the scan timestamp and feed entitlement. Test a small set of known matching and nonmatching symbols.

2

Step 2: Compare Additional Technical Observations

Add supported candidates to a Pineify collection and choose available fields and intervals. Full readings require Expert or higher. The collection does not preserve the original PCF or thinkScript query, prove an entry or submit an order.

The Same Indicator Name Can Hide Different Smoothing

TC2000 distinguishes plain RSI from Wilder's RSI: the former averages gains and losses with a simple average, while the latter uses Wilder's smoothing. Match the actual variant and period on both platforms. A threshold of 60 cannot make two differently smoothed series equivalent. PCF offsets also count bars in the selected timeframe, not necessarily days.

Daily Direction Can Disagree with the Latest Five-Minute Move

Suppose a hypothetical stock was $49 at the previous daily close, $51 at the previous five-minute close and is now $50. It is above the prior daily close but below the prior five-minute close. Both comparisons are correct. Changing refresh from one minute to five seconds does not change which bar the offset refers to, and enabling extended hours can change the bars used.

Separate Current Data from Automatic Recalculation

TC2000 includes a Nasdaq Basic stock feed in its current base offering and lists consolidated-tape access separately. That data entitlement is distinct from Premium+ automatic filter permissions. On thinkorswim, pattern-filter results update hourly even though other scan results update dynamically. Use the actual refresh setting and timestamp instead of assuming every displayed number has the same clock.

Checked October 20, 2026: TC2000's main pricing table now uses Basic, Premium and Premium+, although legacy Gold and Platinum text remains lower on the page. Schwab says its clients pay no thinkorswim platform fee and there is no minimum funding amount simply to use it; specific trading products have separate requirements. No subscription or live scan benchmark was performed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is TC2000 proven faster than thinkorswim?

No controlled speed comparison was performed for this page. Match the symbol universe, conditions, data feed, refresh setting and computer before comparing response time. A real-time quote subscription alone does not establish how often a scan refreshes.

What are TC2000’s current plans?

The current pricing page lists Basic, Premium and Premium+ at displayed monthly rates of $24.99, $49.99 and $99.99. It includes a Nasdaq Basic US-stock feed and lists other feeds separately. Verify the selected billing cycle and account entitlements; older Silver, Gold and Platinum names still appear in some documentation.

What limits apply to automatic TC2000 filtering?

The current refresh help page requires Premium+ for real-time filters, with five concurrent real-time scans. Automatic refresh below 15 minutes also requires Premium+; available rates can depend on scan complexity.

Can a thinkorswim chart study be pasted into Stock Hacker unchanged?

Not necessarily. A custom study filter requires exactly one plot and does not allow secondary aggregation. Its selected aggregation and extended-hours setting must match the intended condition. A chart study can use features that are unavailable in the scan context.

Does Pineify translate either scanner into Pine Script?

Market Screener does not import PCF or thinkScript rules and does not export a collection as Pine Script. It displays supported fields for selected symbols. Full readings require Expert or higher, and the matrix does not place broker orders.
