Stock Rover vs. Finviz: Data Definitions, Access & Cost
Both products filter financial and technical data, but their fields, history and account entitlements differ. Define the research question first, then compare the exact inputs and costs behind the results.
Core Distinction
Match Features to a Defined Research Task
Stock Rover Research Tasks

- Portfolio analysis and rebalancing plans using read-only brokerage connections
Finviz Research Tasks
Market maps and combined screening
- Market maps for inspecting selected universes, sectors and performance periods
- Combined technical and fundamental filters (SMA crosses, RSI, P/E, institutional ownership)
- Public stock pages and a free screener, with additional data access, exports and tools on Elite
Side-by-Side Breakdown
Stock Rover vs. Finviz vs. Pineify
Compare data depth, technical capabilities, and workflow costs across all three platforms.
| Dimension | Stock Rover | Finviz / Elite | Pineify Market Screener |
|---|---|---|---|
| Research task | Financial screening, valuation models and portfolio analytics. | Market visualization, screening, financial statements and stock research. | Supported technical observations in collections. |
| Financial history | Fundamental coverage varies by plan: 5, 10 or 20 years. | Elite lists eight years of financial statements. | Not a replacement for financial statements. |
| Conditions | Plan-dependent equations, ranks and historical criteria. | Combined fundamental and technical filters; Elite adds customizable filters. | Supported fields; no interpretation of either vendor’s formulas. |
| Views | Configurable financial and technical tables. | Multiple table/chart views; Elite supports personalized views. | Up to 20 columns, 100 symbols per collection and 15 collections. |
| Quote access | Ultimate tiers list real-time quotes where available; asset delays still matter. | Regular stocks: one-minute delay currently documented; Elite stocks: real time. | Visible active collection polls every 60 seconds. |
| Time and coverage | Financial periods and price history are separate; confirm symbol coverage. | Stock screener covers US-listed securities; a country filter is company location. | Eight intervals from 1m to 1d for supported listings. |
| Portfolio and export | Read-only brokerage links; proposed trades require broker execution. | Elite provides data exports and portfolio tools; a CSV is not a strategy script. | No broker execution or collection-to-Pine export. |
| Billing | Current paid tiers begin at $34/month or $348/year; more access costs more. | Elite $39.50/month or $299.50/year; free tier has separate limits. | Expert or higher for full data; see current plan terms. |
The Practical Problem
Three Reasons Candidate Lists Can Differ
A different list does not by itself show that one product is wrong. Test the universe, field definition and observation time before drawing that conclusion.
Different Universes
A country filter can describe company location rather than the exchange. Finviz documents US-listed stock coverage; Stock Rover has different North American coverage and plan-specific access. Match listings before comparing counts.
Different Denominators
P/E can use trailing reported earnings or forward estimates. Debt ratios, margins and growth rates also need matching definitions and periods. Equal labels do not guarantee equal inputs or missing-value treatment.
Different Clocks
A real-time quote can coexist with older quarterly financials. Changing a refresh setting does not create a new filing or revise the indicator period. Record timestamps and data vintages alongside the filters.
Comparison Workflow
Reconcile Inputs Before Adding Technical Readings
Use the same test case to understand each product. Additional readings are observations, not proof that a candidate is undervalued or ready to trade.
Step 1: Reproduce a Small Defined Screen
Record the exchange universe, field definitions, thresholds, data dates and missing-value policy. Manually inspect a few passing and failing securities using the underlying financial reports. Save the assumptions with the result list.
Step 2: Compare Supported Technical Fields
Add supported listings to a Pineify collection and choose available fields and intervals. The visible active collection refreshes every 60 seconds. It does not import vendor rules, verify the valuation or send orders. Full data requires Expert or higher.
One Stock Can Pass Forward P/E and Fail Trailing P/E
Take a hypothetical $60 share with trailing EPS of $3 and next-year estimated EPS of $4. Trailing P/E is 20, while forward P/E is 15. A filter below 18 returns different answers without any calculation error. If the estimate is cut to $2.50, forward P/E rises to 24 at the same price. Neither the earlier low multiple nor a favorable technical reading guarantees the forecast.
A Market Map Is Not an Equal-Weight Breadth Count
Imagine one company representing 60% of a hypothetical index falls 2%, while the remaining companies, together 40%, rise 1%. The simplified weighted return is −0.8%, even though most companies may be rising. Read the map's size and color settings before equating a large red rectangle with broad market weakness.
Compare the Actual Billing Period
Finviz Elite costs $39.50 on monthly billing or $299.50 for a year. The latter is about $24.96 per month as an arithmetic equivalent, not a monthly-payment offer. Stock Rover's current entry paid plan is Premium at $34 monthly or $348 annually; higher plans buy different access. Quotes here were checked October 20, 2026 and exclude any checkout-specific adjustments.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should determine the choice between Stock Rover and Finviz?
Start with the research task. Stock Rover combines financial history, valuation and portfolio analysis; Finviz combines market maps, screening and stock research. Compare the particular fields, universe, data timestamps and paid features you need rather than assuming one is universally better.
Why can the same P/E filter return different stocks?
Trailing and forward earnings are different denominators. Providers can also differ in estimate dates, restatements, missing-data handling and coverage. Compare the field definition and period before treating different lists as a software error.
Is Finviz Elite $24.96 on monthly billing?
No. The annual price of $299.50 is about $24.96 per month when divided by 12. The separate monthly subscription is $39.50. Trial access requires a payment method and converts to paid billing unless canceled.
Do Stock Rover and Finviz only offer delayed daily data?
No. Finviz currently documents one-minute-delayed regular stock quotes and real-time Elite stock quotes. Stock Rover lists real-time quotes where available on Ultimate tiers. Quotes, chart bars, fundamental updates and scanner refresh intervals must be checked separately.
Can Pineify automatically turn either screen into a strategy?
No. Market Screener displays supported technical readings for selected symbols. It does not import either product’s rules, export a collection as Pine Script or place orders. Full readings require Expert or higher; adding another indicator does not validate a company valuation.
