TradingView chart workflows

Choose a TradingView multi-chart layout for strategy review

The best TradingView chart layout is the smallest arrangement that keeps your decision inputs readable. For one strategy, use separate trend, entry, and risk views. Open Layout setup, choose an available arrangement, enable Symbol sync, and disable Interval sync to keep the same market on different timeframes. Give each chart a defined job, then save and reopen the layout to verify it.

Build three views around one review question

This is a demonstration setup for reviewing a hypothetical long entry, not a tested strategy or a recommendation of these intervals. Use standard candles, the same exchange-qualified symbol, session, and timezone. Choose a three-chart arrangement if your account offers it. Otherwise, review the same roles sequentially and record a timestamp for each.

  • Place the entry chart where you can read its candles and timestamps without zooming the whole browser. Maximize an individual chart when its labels become crowded.
  • Illustrative prices: an assumed fill of 100.20 and a stop of 99.60 give 0.60 per share of price risk. At 100 shares, that is 60 before fees, slippage, or gaps. This arithmetic does not establish an acceptable position size or a guaranteed loss limit.
  • The third chart helps inspect the price area; it does not reduce risk by itself. If it repeats the entry view without answering another question, remove it.
  • For a historical review, use only the daily bar that had completed by the entry timestamp. A daily candle viewed after the session contains information that was unavailable earlier.
View and intervalWhat to displayQuestion to record
Trend: 1D, longer historyPrice and a 20-period SMA; retain enough history to read its directionDid the last completed daily bar close above its SMA? Record that bar date and value.
Entry: 15 minutes, recent sessionsPrice and a horizontal level selected before the reviewDid a completed bar close above the marked level? Record the level, bar time, and close.
Risk detail: 5 minutes, entry areaPrice with the proposed entry and stop annotatedWhat is the distance between the assumed fill and stop? Keep both prices visible.

Set synchronization deliberately

Open the layout menu and inspect its synchronization controls before setting the individual intervals. The settings below are a suggested configuration for this example. They are not universal defaults.

  • Drawing sync has a separate control on the drawing toolbar and applies to charts of the same symbol. Keep review-only annotations local unless you intend to share them.
  • If a benchmark chart must keep its own symbol, use chart syncing groups for the charts that should move together. Select Symbol sync, Interval sync, or both, then assign matching group markers through the status line or series context menu. Do not assume these groups also restrict Date range or drawing sync.
ControlExample settingReason or check
SymbolOnChanging the market should update all three views. Verify the exchange prefix as well as the ticker.
IntervalOffAssign 1D, 15 minutes, and 5 minutes separately; changing one must not overwrite the others.
CrosshairOn for timestamp comparisonRead the time label on each view. A daily candle cannot identify the sequence of every intraday move.
TimeOff initiallyNavigate each view independently while establishing its working range; enable it only if linked time navigation suits the review.
Date rangeOff for this setupThe daily chart needs more history than the entry detail. Enable Date range when the task is to compare the same visible period; scrolling one then changes the others.

Separate indicator copies from linked settings

When additional charts are first created, TradingView applies indicators and strategies from the original chart to them. That initial copy does not mean later indicator edits remain linked. Review each chart and remove indicators that do not serve its assigned role.

  • For an intentional shared indicator, use its context menu to add it to the entire layout. To apply the current set, use the chart context menu command for applying indicators to the entire layout.
  • After changing an input, inspect every chart that should use that value. Indicator instances do not continuously synchronize across layout charts.
  • A 20-period average on a daily chart and a 20-period average on a 15-minute chart describe different histories. Matching the input number does not make their calculations equivalent.

Save the layout and the reusable templates separately

A layout stores charts, chart settings, indicators, and drawings. Watchlists and alerts are separate. Name this example review-1D-15m-5m, save it, then reopen it before relying on it. Available chart counts depend on the subscription; check the arrangements offered in your account rather than assuming a plan includes this example.

  • To reuse an indicator set, configure the active chart, open Indicator templates in the top toolbar, and choose Save indicator template. Use role-specific names such as trend-SMA20 rather than one ambiguous default.
  • Applying a template replaces the chart indicators and can remove drawings in indicator panes. Preserve the original setup before applying a template to a chart you need to retain.
  • If the layout shows unsaved changes, save before closing. Avoid editing the same layout differently in several tabs; competing changes can overwrite the setup you intended to keep.
  • Keep a small review note alongside the layout: symbol and exchange, session, timezone, chart type, intervals, script versions and inputs, and observation timestamp. Add the template names used for each role.

Run a five-step acceptance check

Perform this check on a practice layout before reviewing a trade. Record pass or fail for each row; a saved name alone is not evidence that the configuration is correct.

Turn the review into a screenshot or a script brief

For AI Chart Analysis, maximize the view you want reviewed and upload one clear screenshot yourself. Keep the symbol, timeframe, price axis, and relevant timestamps visible. A small mosaic can hide the labels needed to interpret the image. Pineify analyzes the submitted image; this workflow does not connect to or synchronize your live TradingView layout.

  • Choose the view that answers the current question. Check any returned level against the original chart; missing history and unreadable labels limit what a screenshot can show.
  • For the Pine Script AI Coding Agent, write a separate brief specifying the daily filter, entry timeframe, confirmed-bar timing, exit rule, and cost assumptions. A layout arrangement does not combine those rules into a strategy.
  • State what the script should do when the higher-timeframe bar is unfinished. Verify its values at recorded timestamps before treating its historical output as a test result.

AI Chart Analysis

Upload one labeled chart screenshot for a visual review. Check the response against your chart; a screenshot cannot supply hidden history or prove that a strategy works.

Also useful: Pine Script AI Coding Agent. Turn the rules assigned to each timeframe into an editable script brief, with explicit confirmation timing, exits, and validation steps.
