TradingView watchlist import: prepare and check your symbols

TradingView watchlist import uses a .txt file containing comma-separated symbols with exchange prefixes. Open the watchlist name menu in the right toolbar and choose Upload list. Check your plan first: the current comparison lists import/export on Essential and higher paid tiers, excluding Basic. Prepare a unique list of verified symbols, then compare the imported result against that list.

See the decision guide

Prepare the file and open the import menu

Use plain text with a .txt extension, exchange-prefixed symbols, and commas between them. Select Upload list from the watchlist name menu. For a backup, open Advanced view and use Download list as TXT. TradingView also calls the upload action Import in its watchlist overview.

  • Keep spreadsheet headings, company descriptions, share quantities, and purchase prices out of this symbol-only file. Renaming a spreadsheet does not convert its contents.
  • Before editing an existing list, keep an exported backup. Use a separate test list for the first attempt when your account allows it.
  • Read any confirmation before accepting it. The cited import guide does not specify a universal merge-or-replace rule.

Check access before debugging the file

The TradingView pricing table checked on October 17, 2026 lists watchlist import/export for Essential, Plus, Premium, and Ultimate. Basic does not include it. The same table lists 30 symbols per watchlist for Basic and 1,000 for those paid tiers. Confirm the current entitlement in your account before preparing a large import.

  • If the upload action is unavailable, check the signed-in account and its plan first. Changing commas or filename extensions cannot enable a missing entitlement.
  • Compare your intended unique symbol count with the current allowance. An import format that is correct can still exceed an account limit.

Worked example: clean five supplied entries into three symbols

This is a demonstration of file preparation, not a recorded TradingView import. Assume the intended companies are Apple, Microsoft, and IBM on their U.S. listings. The raw input below includes one duplicate, one missing exchange prefix, and one deliberately fabricated placeholder. Verify each intended listing in symbol search before preparing the final file.

  • Count check: 5 supplied entries minus 1 duplicate minus 1 excluded placeholder equals 3 expected symbols. Resolving IBM changes its identifier, not the count.
  • Deduplicate the full identifier after resolving missing prefixes. Equal ticker text on different exchanges is not enough to establish that two entries mean the same instrument.
  • Record unresolved entries separately with their original text and intended company or asset. Do not silently discard them from your research notes.

Save the reviewed TXT and reconcile the result

Save the following demonstration content as watchlist-demo.txt. These three listing identities were checked against TradingView symbol pages. Recheck them when you use the example. The expected result is a checklist for your import, not a claim that an upload has been executed here.

  • Keep the input file, expected identifier list, import date, and any discrepancy notes together. Export the result for comparison when available.
  • Only mark the task complete after both comparisons pass: expected identifiers missing from the result = none; result identifiers absent from the expected list = none.

Handle duplicates and invalid symbols explicitly

The official import guide does not document a precise duplicate or invalid-symbol error contract. Do not rely on automatic deduplication, silent skipping, or an all-or-nothing failure. Remove confirmed duplicates before upload and inspect every resulting entry afterward.

  • If a symbol cannot be opened, search its intended asset manually and check the exchange, share class, contract, or currency pair. Copy the identifier of the matching result.
  • A string shaped like EXCHANGE:TICKER is only a format candidate. It does not prove that the instrument exists or remains available.
  • If the file is rejected, try a small file of individually verified identifiers. Compare its text with the original to isolate extra columns, separators, or unresolved entries.
  • If the count differs, reconcile full identifiers before retrying. Repeatedly uploading the same file does not establish what was accepted.

Use the reviewed list for research in Pineify

After checking the list, provide the company names and tickers to Pineify AI Finance Agent with a specific research question. It can query supported financial data for that research. This is a manual handoff of the list you supply; no automatic TradingView watchlist synchronization is claimed.
