Trade records and reconciliation

Robinhood Trading Journal

Start with the right Robinhood report, then separate executed trades from other account activity. This guide follows Robinhood’s US documentation and shows how to check a fractional-share example before entering it in a journal.

Pineify import status: Trading Journal currently supports manual entry. Its Import History control is marked Coming Soon. This guide does not provide an importer or broker connection.

Prepare your Robinhood activity report

  1. 1

Check the account and activity you need

Robinhood’s custom CSV activity report covers brokerage and retirement accounts. Futures, crypto and spending activity are excluded. Do not treat this file as a complete record of every Robinhood product.

  2. 2

    Request the report

Open Account activity report, choose Generate new report, then select the account type and date range. Generate the report and retrieve it from Reports when Robinhood notifies you that it is ready; generation is not necessarily immediate.

  3. 3

Preserve the original and inspect a sample

Keep an unchanged copy with its account and period. Choose a few entries whose source records you can verify, including an opening trade before the selected period if needed. Do not assume another journal accepts this CSV without checking its instructions.

  4. 4

Record only what you have reconciled

Separate trades, transfers and other activity, then verify quantities and costs. For Pineify, enter supported fields manually. Keep details that the destination does not support in your own source notes rather than inventing values.

Use the report that answers your question

The activity CSV, monthly statement and individual trade confirmation serve different purposes. Robinhood provides monthly statements as PDFs and lets you open a trade confirmation from the specific transaction in History. Retain them when investigating a discrepancy.

The steps above describe the account activity report, not a realized-gain tax report. A cash movement, sale proceeds and a realized trading result are different amounts. Check the meaning of a row before using it in journal statistics.

Keep account activity separate from closed trades

This is a review checklist, not a specification of Robinhood CSV columns. Inspect the actual file and supporting documents. Keep the account, instrument, currency, transaction date and source identifier wherever available.

For options, retain the exact contract and lifecycle event. An exercise or assignment should not be converted into an ordinary closing sale simply to fit a spreadsheet. Resolve missing entry history, transferred positions and corporate actions before claiming a complete result.

Classify records before calculating journal performance
RecordJournal treatmentCheck before calculating
Executed buy or sellRetain filled quantity, execution price and costs.Match entries and exits under an explicit method; an order request is not proof of execution.
Deposit or withdrawalKeep as an external account cash flow.A deposit increases cash but is not trading profit.
Dividend or interestRecord separately from ordinary trade proceeds.State whether the metric includes this income.
Transfer or corporate actionPreserve its identity and supporting history.Do not invent an entry price from a current market quote.
Open positionKeep the remaining units visible.Unrealized value does not become closed-trade P&L merely because the report period ends.

Check fractional quantities before rounding

Fictional example in USD: start with no position, buy 0.25 shares at 100, then sell 0.10 at 110. Assume no other trades or adjustments, and 0.05 of verified costs allocated to the closed portion. The table uses those assumptions only; it is not a Robinhood export sample.

The 11.00 sale proceeds contain 10.00 of entry cost. Gross realized profit is 1.00 and net realized profit is 0.95 after the stated costs. The remaining 0.15 shares have 15.00 of entry cost before any costs assigned to that open portion. Their current value is unknown.

If the account also received a 500.00 deposit, that amount would not change this trade result. Preserve the original quantity precision during matching and round presentation amounts only after calculating. This example does not determine tax basis or a broker’s lot-selection method.

Commission-free does not mean every cost is zero

Robinhood’s fee guide describes commission-free trading for stocks, ETFs and their options, but also lists charges that can apply, including regulatory and ADR fees. Use the charges in your records rather than inserting zero for every transaction.

Define which costs belong to a particular trade. Financing charges and subscription expenses may be account-level costs rather than directly attributable execution costs. Keep their allocation explicit and do not deduct a fee twice if a reported amount already includes it.

Crypto has a separate API scope

Robinhood documents a Crypto Trading API for US Robinhood Crypto customers, including access to crypto account information, holdings and orders. The availability of this API does not establish a connection to Pineify.

Keep crypto records separate until their source and units are understood. The brokerage activity CSV’s coverage and the Crypto API are different contracts. This guide does not request credentials, call the API or convert its responses into journal entries.

Frequently asked questions

Can I import Robinhood CSV files directly into Pineify?

Not currently. Pineify Trading Journal supports manual entry and marks Import History as Coming Soon. This guide helps you prepare records; it does not supply a Robinhood parser or sync connection.

Does the activity report include Robinhood crypto trades?

No. Robinhood’s account activity report excludes crypto, futures and spending activity. Obtain the appropriate records separately rather than treating missing rows as no trading activity.

Is a sale amount the profit on that trade?

No. Match the sold quantity to its entry cost and account for the applicable costs. Any units still held remain open. Deposits and withdrawals also need separate treatment.

How should I record fractional shares?

Retain the quantity precision in the source record. Match the actual units sold instead of rounding them to whole shares, and keep the unsold balance separate. The worked example shows this distinction.

Can I use Robinhood’s Crypto API to sync with Pineify?

This page provides no API connection. Robinhood’s documented crypto API does not imply that Pineify can read it. Do not enter API credentials into a journal that has no documented integration.

Continue with a reconciled sample

For a manual review, use the Pineify Trading Journal after checking its current fields. For a separate spreadsheet, inspect the Excel journal template and its calculation assumptions. Neither path adds automatic broker import.
