Six styles · Eighteen fictional records · Reproducible arithmetic

Trading Journal Examples

See how quantities, costs and instrument units change a trade log. Each worked example shows the inputs behind its result, then separates accounting observations from questions a sample cannot answer.

All records are fictional teaching data. They are not real trading performance, customer results or recommendations. Every position is fully closed; no live prices or account equity series are supplied.

Inspect a style and reconcile its records

Filter the worked logs or collapse their details. Summary metrics use the same rows shown in each table and are calculated from those records.

Review: Trade D3 gains $2 before costs and breaks even after $2 of charges. It remains in the three-trade win-rate denominator. The sample cannot identify a preferred trading hour or setup.

P3 record note:

Review: P2 loses $30 from price movement and $7 in charges. Do not treat all longer holds as equivalent or infer a portfolio allocation from these quantities; no account size or interim equity history is supplied.

Calculation conventions you can check

Gross quote-currency P&L = direction × (exit − entry) × quantity × multiplier, where direction is +1 for a long and −1 for a short. Convert to USD at the stated rate and round to cents; subtract stated USD costs to obtain the net result. Charges already included in costs are not deducted again.

Win rate counts positive-net rows over all rows, including breakevens. Profit factor divides total positive net results by the absolute total negative net results. A zero loss denominator gives N/A, not a finite ratio. Average wins and losses use their respective groups only.

Price R divides signed price movement by the initial stop distance on the loss side of entry. It excludes costs. A missing stop gives N/A. In the forex example, the JPY conversion is an explicit teaching assumption, not a current exchange rate or a broker conversion policy.

Standard equity options commonly represent 100 shares, but adjusted deliverables can differ; verify the actual contract. See the Options Industry Council’s Options Basics. These single-leg examples exclude exercise and assignment and do not represent the full obligations of a short option.

A planned stop does not guarantee its execution price. See Investor.gov’s Types of Orders. Final outcomes cannot establish the worst interim loss, and three fictional rows cannot establish an edge.

Build your own record from source evidence

Replace the fictional identifiers with real instrument and execution references, preserve timestamps and timezone, and verify all charges. Keep pending costs and remaining positions visible. Use the first-record guide for a step-by-step starting point.

Pineify Journal supports manual trades, close records, notes, screenshots and tags. Import History is marked Coming Soon; this page is not an import file or automatic TradingView connection. The Journal’s price R excludes fees, and other statistics may use different filters and zero-denominator conventions. The analytics verification guide explains those current limits.

Questions about the examples

Are these examples real trading results?

No. All instruments, fills, periods and outcomes are fictional teaching records. They are not historical execution data, customer performance, recommendations or tested strategies.

How are the example results calculated?

Gross quote-currency result is signed price change times quantity times multiplier. Convert that result to USD at the stated rate, round to cents, then subtract the stated USD costs. Each row represents one fully closed position.

Do breakeven trades count in the win rate?

Yes. Win rate is positive-net trades divided by all closed rows, including zero-net rows. Profit factor is total positive net results divided by absolute total negative net results; a missing loss denominator is shown as N/A.

What does price R mean in these logs?

It is signed entry-to-exit price movement divided by the initial stop distance on the loss side of entry. It excludes costs and does not measure account risk, option maximum obligation or a guaranteed stop execution. A missing initial stop is shown as N/A.

Can I infer a profitable strategy from these samples?

No. Three fictional rows per style illustrate accounting only. They cannot establish a statistical edge, a preferred setup or holding period, portfolio returns or the worst interim drawdown.

Can Pineify automatically import these kinds of trades?

Import History is marked Coming Soon. Pineify Journal supports manual trade and close records. These educational logs are not an import file, and their calculation conventions are not a promise that every Journal metric uses the same definition.
