Identify which kind of free data you are seeing
A flow feed contains reported trades. A volume report aggregates activity over an interval. A chain snapshot lists contracts and available quote or activity fields at the time of retrieval. A screenshot or newsletter contains a selected observation. None is interchangeable with a complete historical transaction dataset.
Read the source date, timezone and delay label. Two trading days is different from two calendar days; weekends and exchange holidays affect the age of the underlying observations. A page refresh updates your request time, not necessarily the source data.
Use Pineify’s public options-chain viewer as a contract sample
The public options-chain viewer requests up to 250 option contracts for a selected underlying and filters the returned sample. A large chain can contain more contracts than that limit. The displayed list therefore cannot establish that you have found the most unusual trade across the whole market or every expiration.
Use the contract identity and available volume or open interest to form a research question. Open interest is an outstanding-contract measure after clearing, while volume counts activity during a period. High volume relative to prior open interest does not prove that all those contracts opened new positions.
Pineify’s full Market Insights flow view is a separate account feature requiring Expert or above. The public options-chain viewer does not unlock that subscription, and this guide contains no live trade feed.
Build a useful research note without a live subscription
Record the underlying, full contract, observation date, source timestamp, data delay and filters. Save the report’s definition of volume and open interest. Mark unavailable values as missing instead of substituting zero. If you compare later observations, keep the universe and filters fixed.
Use delayed records for explanation or a study designed around that delay. Do not reconstruct an intraday decision using information that only became available later. A free trial can help inspect functionality, but a short trial cannot establish a repeatable trading advantage.
Recognize when free access cannot answer the question
If the question depends on execution order, quote conditions or sub-minute arrival times, an aggregated or delayed report lacks necessary evidence. If it depends on months of observations, confirm retention and export access. A paid plan is useful only if it supplies the fields and timing the study requires.
No scanner can disclose a trader’s entire position from an isolated print. Avoid treating “unusual,” “sweep” or “bullish” labels as proof of insider knowledge or a recommended trade.
