What is a Trade Replay Simulator?
A trade replay simulator is a powerful training tool that allows traders to practice their decision-making skills using historical price data. Instead of waiting for real market conditions, you can replay past market action bar-by-bar, simulating the experience of watching the market unfold in real-time. This enables you to practice entries, exits, and risk management without risking real capital.
This free trade replay simulator accepts consistently formatted OHLCV (Open, High, Low, Close, Volume) data in CSV format and replay it at various speeds. You can place simulated trades with stop loss and take profit levels, mark decision points for later review, and inspect gross one-unit metrics in the current session. The built-in 25-candle series is synthetic, not market history.
How to Use This Trade Replay Simulator
- 1
Prepare Your Data
Export historical price data from your broker, TradingView, or any data provider. The CSV must include date (or time), open, high, low, and close columns. Use valid ascending ISO dates or zoned timestamps. Volume is optional and does not affect the simulation. Quoted CSV fields are not supported.
- 2
Upload and Start Replay
Upload your CSV file and use the playback controls to step through the data. You can play continuously, step bar-by-bar, or jump forward with every intervening bar checked for exits. Moving backward clears trades and markers rather than carrying future outcomes into the past.
- 3
Place Simulated Trades
When you see a setup you like, click "Place Trade" to enter one long or short unit at the displayed close. Stops and targets begin on the next bar using the stated gap and stop-first assumptions; OHLC cannot reveal the actual order of intrabar price moves.
- 4
Mark Decision Points
Use the "Mark Decision Point" button to flag interesting moments for later review. These markers appear on the chart at the selected bar. Trade-entry notes are shown in completed trade history; observation markers use a generated bar label, not a custom journal.
- 5
Analyze Your Performance
Review your trade history and performance metrics including total P&L, win rate, profit factor, and average win/loss for closed one-unit trades. Open positions are excluded; these gross figures are not account returns.
Why Use a Trade Replay Simulator?
Risk-Free Practice
Practice trading decisions without risking real money. Make mistakes and learn from them in a safe environment.
Adjustable Replay Speed
Advance one bar every 2, 1, 0.5 or 0.25 seconds. These speeds control display timing, not simulated market latency.
Manual Rule Practice
Enter trades manually against the uploaded candles. There is no scripted strategy runner or out-of-sample test.
Decision Analysis
Mark and review your decision points. Understand what you were thinking and how it affected your results.
Positive-Price OHLC Data
Load one consistently adjusted price series. Futures multipliers, forex pip values, corporate actions and negative-price instruments are not modeled.
Browser Processing
The replay file reader does not upload the CSV or trades. Sessions stay in page memory and are lost on reload; this does not describe all site analytics.
Tips for Effective Replay Practice
- •Start slow: Begin with 0.5x or 1x speed to carefully analyze each bar before making decisions.
- •Keep units clear: Every simulated trade uses one unit. Position sizing and contract-specific exposure must be assessed separately.
- •Take notes: Use the notes field when entering trades to document your reasoning.
- •Review losing trades: Pay special attention to trades that hit stop loss - what could you have done differently?
- •Practice different market conditions: Upload data from trending, ranging, and volatile periods.
