All cash inputs and results use USD. No account-currency conversion is performed. Margin is a fixed-rate scenario, not a broker eligibility or liquidation calculation. The stop/target amounts are gross hypothetical fills.

Keep the trade, costs and balance in one currency

Choose the pair, direction and quantity, then enter entry/exit prices. Standard, mini and micro lots represent 100,000, 10,000 and 1,000 base units here. All cash amounts use the quote currency, including commission, swap, margin and the optional balance. For USD/JPY, those amounts are JPY, not USD. Check the broker contract size separately.

Gross P&L = base units × signed price change. Net P&L = gross − extra spread allowance − total commission − signed swap cost. A positive swap input is a charge; a negative value is a credit. Enter the total over the holding period, including any multi-day rollover. This tool does not infer a swap from interest rates.

Reference prices versus actual fills

Set the extra spread allowance to zero when the entry and exit are actual bid/ask fills. Their difference already reflects crossing the spread. Add only costs absent from the inputs; do not also subtract slippage embedded in a fill. Account-currency conversion fees, taxes and unentered charges are excluded.

For one standard EUR/USD long from 1.0850 to 1.0920, gross profit is USD 700. Reference prices with a separate 1.5-pip allowance cost USD 15, giving USD 685 before commission or swap. Add a swap charge of USD 5 and net becomes USD 680; a swap credit entered as −5 instead gives USD 690.

Margin changes the denominator, not fixed-quantity P&L

Entry notional in quote currency = base units × entry price. Estimated entry margin = notional ÷ assumed leverage. In the EUR/USD example, USD 108,500 notional at an assumed 100:1 gives USD 1,085 margin, and USD 685 / USD 1,085 is about 63.13%. On a USD 10,000 starting balance, the same USD 685 is 6.85%.

These ratios do not establish available leverage or broker acceptance. Requirements can be tiered, vary by instrument and jurisdiction, and change during the trade. The optional balance scenario adds only this trade’s net result; it excludes other positions, deposits and withdrawals. No margin-call or liquidation path is modeled.

Stop and target scenarios need valid sides

For a long, require stop < entry < target; for a short, target < entry < stop. Either field can be left blank. The ratio uses gross price distances, with no cost or probability adjustment. A 1:2 ratio does not establish a winning strategy, and gaps can cause losses beyond the displayed stop amount.

With EUR/USD entry 1.0850, stop 1.0830 and target 1.0890, one standard long lot has USD 200 gross stop distance and USD 400 gross target distance. Reversing direction requires reversing the stop and target sides; the tool rejects inconsistent levels instead of masking them with absolute values.

FAQs

Which currency is used for trade profit and margin?

All cash inputs and results use the selected pair’s quote currency: USD for EUR/USD, JPY for USD/JPY and GBP for EUR/GBP. Enter commission, swap and any balance in that currency. No conversion to a different account currency is performed.

How is gross forex P&L calculated?

Multiply base units by exit minus entry for a long, or entry minus exit for a short. Units equal lots times the selected lot size. Equivalently multiply signed pips by the position pip value; no extra unit multiplier or pip division is needed.

How should spread and swap be entered?

Enter an extra spread allowance only if it is missing from the reference prices; actual bid/ask fills already contain spread crossing. Commission is the total across both sides. Swap is a signed total: positive for a charge, negative for a credit. No overnight schedule or broker rate is fetched.

Does leverage change a fixed-position profit?

No. For the same quantity and fills, price P&L is unchanged. This tool estimates entry margin as quote-currency notional divided by assumed leverage. Net P&L divided by that estimate is return on margin, not return on total account equity or proof the broker would accept the trade.

Does a 1:2 risk-reward ratio establish profitability?

No. The displayed ratio compares gross price distances to a valid stop and target. It excludes costs, gaps and the probabilities of either outcome. A stop order can fill worse than its specified price, and broker margin rules can force an earlier exit.
