Multi-Transaction Tracker

Crypto Average Calculator

Track your cryptocurrency purchases and calculate your average entry price, total cost basis, and unrealized/realized P&L. One asset, USD amounts and a chronological FIFO model.

Dates determine processing order; same-date rows use the order shown. Enter one asset, complete every row and remove unused rows. Fees and tax adjustments are excluded.

Break-even Price

You need the price to reach $42,000.00 to break even on remaining holdings before fees. Prior realized gains or losses are separate.

Purchase average and remaining FIFO cost are different

Before any sales, weighted average cost is total purchase cost divided by total units. The sample buys of 0.1 units at $45,000 and 0.15 at $40,000 cost $10,500 for 0.25 units: an average of $42,000. These are hypothetical prices.

When units are sold, FIFO removes the earliest acquired lots. Selling 0.1 units at $50,000 from that example realizes $500 before fees. The remaining 0.15 units have a $6,000 basis and a $40,000 average. At a $42,000 current price their unrealized gain is $300. Combined profit is $800; the remaining average alone does not describe total trade history.

Enter the sequence you actually traded

  1. Enter buys and sells for one asset with USD unit prices and positive quantities.
  2. Use acquisition and disposal dates. Rows sort by date; same-day trades follow the displayed order.
  3. Remove incomplete rows. Overselling or selling before acquisition produces an error instead of silently dropping part of the trade.
  4. Enter the current price yourself. There is no exchange connection or automatic valuation update.

Cost allocation is not a tax filing

This model excludes fees, wallet transfers, rewards, forks, currency conversion and tax-specific unit identification. The IRS digital-assets guidance describes U.S. records needed for dates, quantities, values and basis. It does not make this simplified FIFO calculation valid for every taxpayer or jurisdiction.

A lower average cost can accompany a larger total loss after buying more of a falling asset. DCA purchases do not always lower the average. Use the tool to inspect allocation, not as an instruction to add to a losing position.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the average calculated after a sale?

Sales remove the earliest remaining purchase lots. The average shown is the remaining FIFO cost divided by remaining units, not the average of all historical buys. Realized and unrealized profit are shown separately.

Does transaction order matter?

Rows are sorted by date; same-date rows use their displayed order. Enter same-day trades in actual sequence. A sale cannot consume a future purchase or more units than you hold.

Does averaging down guarantee recovery?

Buying at a lower price can reduce the average cost while increasing exposure. Regular purchases can also raise the average. Neither approach guarantees a profit or a recovery.

Is this a tax calculation?

No. It is a one-asset FIFO illustration excluding fees, transfers, rewards, currency conversion and wallet-specific identification. Tax basis rules depend on jurisdiction and records; use official guidance and actual transaction records.

What currency and prices are used?

All money fields are labeled USD. Enter one asset and a consistent USD price for each transaction and current valuation. Default prices are illustrative; this tool does not fetch a live quote.

Use a cost level in a separate chart rule

Pineify can help create a Pine Script indicator around a manually entered cost level. Configure a TradingView alert separately; this calculator does not sync holdings or place orders.
