Manual OHLC checker

Intraday Pattern Scanner: Check a Candle Pair

Enter two completed candles to check body engulfment and strict inside or outside bars. This page uses your numbers, without a live market feed or a stock-scanning service.

Copy consecutive bars from the same symbol, interval, session and currency. Use original price precision. OHLC inputs are evaluated in this browser; the checker does not request quotes.

Why the Example Matches Two Rules

The prior example candle opens at 52, reaches 54 and 48, and closes at 50. The current candle opens at 49.50, reaches 53 and 49, and closes at 52.50. Its bullish body is 3 wide and contains the prior bearish body of 2. Its high-low range nevertheless sits strictly inside the previous range. Body engulfment and an inside bar can coexist because they measure different endpoints.

Change the current open to 50 and close to 52: body size is now equal to the prior size, so engulfment fails. Change the current high to 54: the strict inside-bar rule fails at equality. A wick covering the previous high does not repair a failed body-size test.

What Two Candles Cannot Establish

This tool does not detect flags, pennants, triangles, double tops or head and shoulders. Those require more history and an explicit definition of pivots, tolerances, duration and breakout confirmation. It also cannot determine whether the entered bars have closed or whether they belong to the same market.

An engulfing shape after a decline has a different context from the same shape after an advance. TradingView's engulfing documentation separates body geometry from configurable trend detection. Its outside-bar documentation compares highs and lows. The checker above publishes its own strict equality rules and does not claim to reproduce every chart indicator.

Review spread, liquidity, session and any later confirmation separately. A completed formation can fail, and a stop order does not establish a guaranteed fill price. No accuracy percentage, trading performance or preferred intraday interval has been measured for this checker.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this page scan live stock prices?

No. This free checker evaluates the two OHLC candles you enter. It does not fetch quotes, validate a ticker, scan a watchlist or detect chart-wide formations such as flags, triangles or head and shoulders.

Which rules does the checker evaluate?

Bullish and bearish body engulfment, strict inside bars and strict outside bars. Engulfment requires opposite nonzero bodies, containment and a strictly larger current body. Inside and outside bars compare both high and low with strict inequalities.

Does a match include trend confirmation or a win probability?

No. The checker has only two candles and tests geometry. It cannot infer a prior trend, support, liquidity, a later breakout or a probability of profit. There are no confidence percentages or detection timestamps.

Which timeframe should I enter?

Use two consecutive completed candles from the same symbol, feed, session and interval. The numerical rules work on any interval, but a five-minute pair and a one-hour pair represent different observations. Changing the interval does not itself establish greater reliability.

Is this identical to the hosted Market Screener?

No. This local checker omits trend and historical-average conditions. For example, the hosted Engulfing Pattern field also tests the prior close against SMA 10. Full hosted screener access requires sign-in and Expert or higher.

Review Hosted Pattern Fields

For supported symbol collections, read the candlestick field guide and the Engulfing Pattern reference. Hosted fields have additional rules and full data requires Expert or higher.
