The Practical Workflow
Turn a Rating into a Defined Research Question
Choose thresholds deliberately, keep the rating timestamp and inspect the chart. A shortlist is an input to research, not a tested trading strategy.
Step 1: Keep Both Scores in View
As an illustrative starting rule, require Technical and Setup ratings of at least 8, then sort the matches by Setup. This threshold is a research choice, not a measured win rate. Inspect trend direction, nearby support and resistance, earnings dates and liquidity before retaining a candidate.
Step 2: Record a Testable Condition
For a hypothetical base between $48 and $50, define whether your research condition is any trade above $50 or a completed daily close above it. These are different events. Add a supported listing to Pineify with the intended interval, then verify the chart. A price of $50.20 is only 0.4% above $50; it does not prove a lasting breakout or an available fill.
A High Trend Score Can Have a Weak Setup
Consider two invented candidates. A has Technical 9 and Setup 3 after a sharp advance; B has Technical 7 and Setup 9 in a narrow range. A may have the stronger trend while B offers a more compact area to investigate. Neither combination tells you which will earn a positive return. Record the failed setup condition instead of treating the rating as an order instruction.
Keep an end-of-day shortlist distinct from observations made during the next session. A report that incorporates today's prices can change before the daily screener rating is recomputed. Saving the symbol alone loses this context; preserve the rating, observation time and the chart condition you intended to test.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Technical and Setup ratings?
Both range from 0 to 10. Technical Rating evaluates trend and relative technical strength; Setup Quality evaluates the shape of a potential setup. A strong trend can be extended, so a high Technical score need not produce a high Setup score. Neither is a probability of a profitable trade.
Why does the Setup score differ between the screener and report?
ChartMill documents an end-of-day Setup value for screening and a Technical Analysis Report score that incorporates current-day data. Compare the observation time before treating the discrepancy as an error.
Does a ChartMill subscription include real-time data?
No. Its current subscription FAQ says market data remains 15 minutes delayed. The market-data documentation further distinguishes US and CBOE Europe intraday feeds from end-of-day Canadian, Euronext and Xetra coverage. Most derived screening fields update after the US close.
What does ChartMill cost?
