Congress Stock Trades Tracker: Read a Disclosure Correctly

A disclosure tracker organizes reported transactions. It does not show an account’s real-time holdings, execution price or motive. Follow the filing back to its source and preserve what is known, estimated and missing before drawing a conclusion.

Identify the reporter and the asset owner

The reporting member and owner of the asset may differ. Read self, spouse, dependent-child or joint ownership fields and the asset description. Do not attribute a household transaction to the member’s personal trading decision without supporting evidence. Options need contract details; an issuer name alone is not enough.

Keep three dates

Save the transaction date, filing/publication date and the date you first observed the record. House covered transactions above $1,000 generally use the earlier of 30 days after awareness or 45 days after transaction as the filing deadline. Publication and provider processing can add delay. A late or amended record can be older than 45 days when encountered.

Preserve reported ranges

A hypothetical $15,001–$50,000 purchase is not a known $32,500 trade. Choosing a midpoint is a modeling assumption. Adding midpoints across filings does not reconstruct exact capital flows. Transaction counts likewise cannot be called dollar-volume ratios.

Reconcile amendments before counting

Compare the original and amended documents, identifiers, owner, asset, date and transaction type. An amendment may correct an existing item rather than add a new trade. A sale may be partial; without a full starting position and intervening activity, current holdings remain unknown.

Use Pineify’s filters within the returned sample

Pineify Market Insights has a Congress tab with available recent and late-report records, name/ticker searches, party and chamber filters, and buy/sell filtering. The default request is limited to 200 rows; counts describe the loaded and filtered sample, not every congressional transaction. The active view polls periodically, while the server can reuse cached data. Full access requires Expert or above. This is a Pineify dashboard, not a native TradingView overlay or an established push-alert service.

Evaluate a disclosure strategy without hindsight

For a hypothetical January 2 transaction first available on February 10, a follower’s test cannot assume a January 2 entry. Define publication-based entry, execution price, costs, position sizing and exit rules before evaluating returns. Do not infer unlawful conduct or superior information merely from a profitable reported transaction.
