Institutional Backtest Review: Evidence, Metrics and Limits
An institutional backtest review needs traceable inputs, stated assumptions and reproducible calculations. TradingView already supplies performance and risk metrics; Pineify provides a separate CSV-based workflow for inspecting trades and simulated equity paths.
Import the TradingView List of trades CSV with Advanced or higher access. Verify trade parsing, capital and costs, then review the equity curve, historical risk metrics and bootstrap simulations. This is a research report, not an institutional certification or audited performance record.
What to Inspect in the Report
Each view answers a question about the imported sample. Keep its assumptions visible when comparing strategies.
Monte Carlo Simulation Built In
Bootstrap simulation samples trade P&L with replacement, using 1,000 paths by default. Fixed-cash sampling does not preserve dependence or resizing. Its ruin statistic checks final equity only; simulation does not establish an edge.
Value at Risk & Drawdown Depth
Historical 95% VaR uses the lower tail of observed trade returns. It is not a daily worst-loss bound; losses beyond that percentile and outside the sample remain possible.
SQN and Sample Size
The current SQN calculation uses mean trade percentage, population standard deviation and the square root of trade count. It does not normalize each trade by its initial risk. State those units before comparing scores.
Browser Calculations, Optional AI
CSV parsing and metrics run in the browser. Sign-in and Advanced or higher access are required. Requesting optional AI analysis sends a report summary for that analysis.
TradingView Report and Pineify CSV Review
Use TradingView for the original run and Pineify for a separate analysis of the exported trades. Calculation assumptions can differ.

Trade-Level Metrics in Every Report
Interpret each metric alongside the sample size, trade distribution, date range and original strategy settings.
Monte Carlo Simulation
Independent resampling of fixed cash P&L, with replacement. It cannot generate unobserved regimes, and terminal-equity ruin can miss an earlier zero crossing.
Value at Risk (VaR)
Uses sorted trade percentages at zero-based floor(N × 0.05). Ties and discrete sample size affect tail counts; it is not a daily loss bound.
System Quality Number
Square root of trade count times mean trade percentage divided by its population standard deviation; this is not an R-multiple calculation.
Sharpe Ratio
Uses trade percentages and trade-frequency annualization. Check the configured risk-free value and units before comparison with daily or monthly account returns.
Sortino Ratio
Uses the root mean square of negative trade percentages, divided by the number of negative observations. This differs from all-period target-deviation conventions.
Equity Drawdown
Accumulates imported cash results in entry-sorted order. Overlapping exits and floating losses require a separate marked-to-market equity reconstruction.
Historical Tail Loss
Review returns at and below the historical VaR threshold using the reported expected shortfall.
Calmar Ratio
Annualized historical return divided by observed maximum drawdown. Neither component is a future bound.
Expectancy & Profit Factor
Average cash result per trade and gross profit divided by gross loss in the imported sample. They do not establish future profitability or an acceptable live position size.
A Review Packet Another Person Can Reproduce
- Identify the run. Record strategy version, symbol, exchange, timeframe, test dates, chart type, capital, currency, costs and execution settings. Preserve the original TradingView report and trade export rather than only the best-looking chart.
- Reconcile the observations. Compare parsed trade IDs, counts and net P&L with the original report. Document open positions, partial exits, timezone conversion and excluded rows. Confirm that calendar tables, summary metrics and workbook sheets refer to the same sample.
- State each calculation. Name the return unit, frequency, annualization, risk-free input, drawdown equity series and percentile convention. Separate actual historical observations from hypothetical resampled paths and AI interpretation.
- Preserve the search history. Record parameter ranges, rejected candidates and selection criteria. Retain a later untouched evaluation period and report cost sensitivity. A chosen profitable result without its selection process is insufficient evidence for an independent review.
For a simple reconciliation fixture, starting capital of $1,000 with net cash trades of +$100 and -$60 ends at $1,040, a 4% cumulative return. Check that arithmetic before interpreting derived ratios. This hypothetical fixture does not validate intratrade drawdown, capital utilization or a real strategy.
Pineify exports seven base workbook sheets; running Monte Carlo adds an eighth. The current exporter can combine all-trade and filtered aggregates. Reconcile each sheet and retain the filter settings. Optional AI interpretation sends derived summaries to a service and does not independently verify the underlying observations.
Sources and Review Scope
The TradingView strategy documentation describes simulated fills, costs and report metrics. Its CSV export instructions distinguish trade data from summary exports. Pineify access, metrics, bootstrap, AI-request, workbook and shared plan configuration were checked on October 21, 2026. This guide defines a reproducible research packet; it does not certify institutional acceptance or satisfy an unspecified reporting standard.

Frequently Asked Questions
Questions about the evidence, access and scope of this report.
Use the trade-list CSV where available. TradingView also offers report XLSX; save a compatible trade worksheet as CSV and reconcile it before Pineify import. Keep the original export and settings. A screenshot or metrics-only summary cannot supply the trade records needed for this analysis.
Backtest Deep Report requires a signed-in account with Advanced or higher access. TradingView has its own built-in strategy report. A free TradingView report and Pineify paid CSV analysis are different products.
CSV parsing and metric calculations run in the browser. If you request the optional AI analysis, a report summary is sent for that analysis; the browser-calculation workflow should not be described as a promise that no data ever leaves the device.
The implementation samples historical trade P&L with replacement, using 1,000 simulations by default. Some trades can repeat or be absent. It adds fixed cash P&L independently, without serial dependence or position resizing; the ruin statistic checks final equity only. Percentiles describe this empirical model, not new regimes or future profit probabilities.
No. It is a research report generated from supplied observations, not an independent audit or certification. A reviewer needs source data, assumptions, version history, calculation definitions and reconciliation. Preserve a separate evaluation sample; the report cannot detect every bias or recover missing market data.
TradingView already provides performance and risk metrics, including Sharpe and Sortino ratios. Pineify offers a separate CSV-based review workflow with trade-level analysis and bootstrap simulation; calculation conventions can differ.
