Screen US Option Contract Candidates with an MCP Agent

Pineify’s read-only options screener MCP tool helps an AI agent page through US option-contract candidates across the market or up to ten selected tickers, with up to 20 contracts per page. It returns the applied criteria, contract activity, and last-transaction IV and reference NBBO when available. Candidates are research leads, not trade recommendations.

Example prompt

Use Pineify to find up to 10 unusual US option contracts across the market and show why each candidate matched.

Direct answer

What screen-option-opportunities does

screen-option-opportunities searches a US options-contract screener one page at a time. The active, unusual, and earnings-window presets can be narrowed with ticker, sector, contract type, DTE, activity, delta, premium, and earnings filters.

The response retains contract identity, volume, open interest, premium, the applied filters, and data-quality warnings. Selected contracts are enriched in bounded per-ticker batches with last-transaction IV and reference NBBO when the detail dataset supplies valid values.

The screener does not supply a verified market date or quote timestamp. DTE is measured against the New York query date; NBBO is reference context, not a live executable quote.

What the agent sends and receives

Inputs

  • One of three presets: active, unusual, or earnings-window.
  • Zero to ten US ticker symbols and optional supported sectors; empty tickers search across the market.
  • Optional call/put type, DTE, volume, open interest, volume-to-OI, premium, delta, and earnings-window thresholds.
  • One of three descending sorts—volume, premium, or volume-to-OI—a page number starting at 0, and a per-page limit from 1 to 20.

Structured output

  • Up to 20 contract candidates per page, with symbol, contract ID, type, expiry, strike, activity, and premium when supplied.
  • The normalized query and applied preset filters, plus hasMore and nextCursor for paging, partial-result, and warning metadata.
  • Nullable last-transaction IV and reference NBBO bid, ask, and spread from bounded contract-detail lookups.

Capabilities

Where this MCP tool fits

Discover cross-market candidates

Leave tickers empty to scan broadly, or narrow to up to ten symbols and supported sectors before reviewing each page of matches.

Compare applied criteria

Choose active, unusual, or earnings-window criteria and inspect the echoed filters before treating a candidate as relevant.

See quote and data gaps

Inspect nullable last-transaction IV, reference NBBO, calculated spread, and warnings rather than treating missing detail as zero.

Agent workflow

A bounded call from question to review

  1. 1

    Choose the discovery question

Select active, unusual, or earnings-window activity; optionally narrow symbols, sectors, contract type, and thresholds.

  2. 2

    Review each page

Read candidates in the selected descending order, then use nextCursor to request another page when hasMore is true.

  3. 3

    Check data quality before interpretation

Separate observed contract activity from nullable last-trade IV and reference NBBO, then inspect times, warnings, and truncation.

Questions an agent can route to this tool

"Use Pineify to find up to 10 unusual US option contracts across the market and show why each candidate matched."
"Screen AAPL and MSFT option contracts around upcoming earnings, sorted by premium, and report missing IV or NBBO."
"Find active technology-sector calls with at least 1,000 contracts traded and no more than 30 DTE."

Operator notes

How I review the result

An empty symbols array is the cross-market query; a nonempty array is normalized to uppercase and limited to ten unique tickers.

The unusual preset applies the vendor’s unusual criteria, including volume above open interest and out-of-the-money contracts; explicit numeric thresholds can override corresponding defaults.

Each response caps at 20 candidates. Start with page 0 and pass nextCursor as the next page number while hasMore is true. Detail failures preserve screener candidates with null IV/NBBO, partial=true, and bounded warnings.

Boundaries to keep in the prompt

  • A screening match is not a forecast, a personalized investment recommendation, or an instruction to open a position.
  • Pages are bounded at 20 contracts. The provider does not return an exact total, and a full page may be followed by an empty page; this is not a complete option chain or a guaranteed full-market export.
  • IV is the last transaction’s implied volatility. Reference NBBO may be stale; no independently verified quote timestamp or executable price is provided.
  • The screener has no explicit market date. DTE uses the New York query date and may not describe a historical snapshot.

Pineify MCP is an information and code-validation tool, not investment advice. It does not promise returns, place trades, or modify a portfolio. Review timestamps, source fields, code diagnostics, and risk assumptions before acting.
