Short answer
Test 5, 13, 5 or 8, 17, 5 as faster MACD scalping settings, with 12, 26, 9 as the control. Very fast values such as 3, 10, 3 can multiply crossovers and trading costs. A scalping setup is only usable when its net average trade survives conservative spread and slippage assumptions.
These values are controls for a test. Keep the symbol, session, costs, entry rule, and exit rule fixed while you compare them.

This is a stress test for noise and execution, not a recommendation.
12, 26, 9 above or below zero
Use a separate price or volume rule for entry while MACD supplies direction.
Do not count a state rule as the same strategy as a crossover rule.
A fast crossover can look precise on a finished chart and still be difficult to trade. Spread, slippage, queue position, and delayed order handling matter more when the expected move is small.
Write the fill rule before backtesting. Entering at the signal-bar close is usually too optimistic when the signal is only known after that close.
Shorter EMA and signal lengths move the MACD closer to current price. That creates earlier crosses and more reversals. The setting is not better unless those extra signals improve net results on untouched dates.
Count how many trades reverse within one, three, and five bars. This gives a direct view of the noise created by a faster combination.
The same parameters cover different amounts of clock time on each chart. Market microstructure and signal frequency also change with the interval.
Build one test per timeframe. If a setting appears on both, validate it independently rather than combining the trades into one result.
These examples define a research process. They are not trade calls or evidence that a setup will make money.

Compare 12, 26, 9 with 5, 13, 5 using completed signal-line crosses and a maximum hold of six bars.

Add spread, commission, and slippage. Check average trade and reversal rate within three bars.

Test 3, 10, 3 during the first 90 minutes of the regular session with a 20 bar volume filter.

Compare long and short trades separately and reserve the most recent 30 percent of dates.
I model the fill after the signal bar, not at a price that was only obvious once the bar had closed.
When I shorten MACD lengths, I watch the net average trade first. A high win rate cannot repair a strategy whose average trade is smaller than its costs.
I keep one-minute and five-minute results separate. Combining them would hide the different signal frequency and execution conditions.
