FMP close is used on a split-adjusted basis; adjClose is not added to cash dividends. Dividends are an ex-date accrual allowance, not cash necessarily paid by the end date. No reinvestment, taxes, fees or noncash distributions. Provider coverage is not guaranteed.

Keep price and dividend adjustments consistent

This page uses FMP’s split-adjusted close and its adjDividend field. It does not fall back to dividend-adjusted adjClose: adding cash dividends to a series already adjusted for them risks double counting. The calculated share quantity is in the provider’s adjusted share units, not necessarily the literal number of historical shares purchased.

Dividend timing and the holding interval

The first returned close on or after your start date is the entry; the final close on or before your end date is the exit. Both are displayed. Dividends with ex-dates strictly after entry and through exit are accrued without reinvestment. Buying on an ex-date does not earn that dividend in this model. Payment can occur after exit, so the allowance is not a statement of cash received by the end date.

A synthetic example you can reproduce

Assume 1,000 USD, a split-adjusted entry close of 10, an exit close of 11 and one eligible adjusted dividend of 0.50. The holding has 100 adjusted share units, price value 1,100 and dividend allowance 50. Modeled ending value is 1,150, or a 15% holding-period return. These numbers are hypothetical and are not PG observations.

Annualized return = (modeled ending value / initial amount)^(365.25 / elapsed days) − 1. It expresses a constant equivalent rate; it does not imply a smooth path, dividend reinvestment or predictable future returns.

Coverage and exclusions

Requests are limited here to ten years. A response needs at least two valid dates and must reach within seven calendar days of each requested boundary. The boundary check is a data-quality guard, not evidence that every intermediate observation is present. Missing adjustment fields or duplicate dividend records stop the calculation. Prices and distributions can be revised by the provider.

The model excludes fees, taxes, FX, reinvestment, spin-offs and other noncash distributions. It cannot reconcile a brokerage statement or prove that PG is defensive, undervalued or suitable for a portfolio. A provider company profile is informational and is not a live executable quote.

Frequently Asked Questions

What return does this page estimate?

A hypothetical PG holding using FMP split-adjusted closing prices plus provider-adjusted dividends accrued on ex-dates strictly after the purchase close and through the sale close. Dividends are not reinvested. This is not your broker’s realized return or a forecast.

Why not use adjClose and add dividends?

FMP documents close as split-adjusted and adjClose as also dividend-adjusted. Adding dividends to a dividend-adjusted series risks double counting. This calculation uses close only and uses adjDividend on the assumption that the provider uses the same split-adjusted share basis. Check issuer records when adjustments or corporate actions matter.

Are these cash payments received during the interval?

No. The dividend allowance is recognized at the provider’s ex-date, which can precede payment. Buying at the close on an ex-date does not earn that dividend here. A dividend accrued before the sale may be paid afterward. Verify entitlement and payment dates against issuer and broker records.

How are nontrading dates handled?

The first returned closing price on or after the start and the last on or before the end are used and displayed. At least two dates are required. A boundary more than seven calendar days from the requested date is rejected as potentially incomplete coverage; this is a tool guard, not an exchange rule.

What limits apply?

Enter a positive finite USD amount and a valid past date range of at most ten years. Fractional split-adjusted share units are allowed. Taxes, fees, FX, reinvestment, spin-offs and other noncash distributions are not modeled. Missing or invalid required data stops the calculation. Provider omissions within the interval cannot be ruled out; reconcile the dividend list with issuer records.

What does annualized return mean?

It is the constant annual rate linking the starting amount to ending value plus accrued dividends, using elapsed days divided by 365.25. It does not mean the investment earned that rate every year or that dividends were reinvested.
