What is an Earnings Alert System?

An earnings alert system helps investors and traders track upcoming earnings announcements for stocks in their portfolio. Earnings reports can cause significant price movements, making it crucial to know when companies are reporting. Our free earnings alert system works entirely offline in your browser, sending you customizable notifications before each earnings date.

Unlike subscription-based services or broker platforms, this tool gives you complete control. You manually input the earnings dates you care about (or import them in bulk), set your preferred notification timing, and receive browser alerts when earnings are approaching. All data stays on your device—no account, no tracking, no data sharing.

How to Use This Earnings Alert System

  1. Enable Notifications: Click "Enable Notifications" to allow browser alerts. This is required for the system to remind you of upcoming earnings.
  2. Add Stocks: Click "Add Stock" and enter the ticker symbol, company name, and earnings date. You can also add notes about expected EPS or analyst estimates.
  3. Import in Bulk: Have a portfolio? Import a CSV or JSON file with columns for Symbol, Company, and Earnings Date. The tool will automatically parse and add all entries.
  4. Set Alert Preferences: Choose when you want to be notified: 1 day before, 1 week before, or a custom number of days. Different stocks can have different settings.
  5. Review Upcoming Earnings: The calendar view shows all upcoming earnings sorted by date. Filter by date range or search for specific symbols.
  6. Export & Backup: Export your earnings data to CSV or JSON for backup or to share with your spreadsheet tools.

Why Track Earnings Dates?

Earnings announcements are among the most important events for stock prices. Here's why tracking them matters:

  • Volatility Management: Earnings reports often cause 5-20% price swings in a single day. Knowing when they're coming helps you manage risk.
  • Options Trading: Options traders need to know earnings dates to avoid or capitalize on implied volatility spikes before announcements.
  • Position Sizing: Many traders reduce position sizes or close trades before earnings to avoid overnight risk.
  • Opportunity Identification: Earnings can create breakout or breakdown setups. Being prepared lets you act quickly.
  • Long-Term Investing: Even buy-and-hold investors benefit from tracking earnings to review company performance and adjust holdings.

Notification Best Practices

To get the most value from earnings alerts, follow these tips:

  • Set Multiple Alerts: Use a 1-week alert to plan your strategy and a 1-day alert as a final reminder.
  • Keep Browser Open: Browser notifications only work when your browser is running. Consider leaving it open in the background during trading hours.
  • Update Dates Quarterly: Earnings dates can change. Update your list each quarter when companies announce their schedules.
  • Add Context in Notes: Use the notes field to record analyst estimates, previous quarter results, or your trading plan for the stock.
  • Export Regularly: Back up your earnings data to a JSON file periodically, especially before clearing browser data.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to keep the browser tab open for notifications?

The browser needs to be running, but the tab doesn't need to be active. Browser notifications work in the background as long as the browser application is open. For best results, keep your browser running during trading hours.

Does this tool automatically fetch earnings dates?

No, this is a manual tracking system to ensure 100% privacy and offline functionality. You enter the earnings dates yourself or import them from a file. This keeps all data on your device with no external API calls.

What file format should I use for importing?

The tool supports CSV and JSON files. For CSV, include columns: Symbol, Company, EarningsDate (YYYY-MM-DD format), and optionally Notes. The importer will automatically detect common column names.

Can I track pre-market and after-hours earnings?

Yes! When adding a stock, you can specify whether earnings are before market open (BMO) or after market close (AMC). This helps you plan your trading strategy accordingly.

How far in advance can I set notifications?

You can set custom notification intervals from 1 day to 30 days before the earnings date. Common choices are 1 day, 3 days, and 7 days, but you have complete flexibility.

What happens to past earnings dates?

The system automatically archives earnings dates that have passed. You can view historical earnings in the archive section or delete them to keep your list clean. Archived earnings won't trigger notifications.
