Long-Term Stock Screening: Cash Flow, Debt and Valuation
Build a long-term research list with company filters, then inspect cash flow, debt, valuation periods and reporting history. A score cannot prove durable returns.
Research task
Build a current watchlist, not a permanent ranking
A current snapshot cannot establish years of business durability. Use the screen to select a manageable set of companies, then compare filings across several years, including weak periods. Separate reported results, one-time items and forecasts.
Fields to define for long-term investing
- Define sector, exchange and market-cap boundaries before looking at results.
- Compare positive P/E with peers and earnings quality; there is no universal safe 8–25 range.
- Inspect operating cash flow, capital expenditure and debt maturities across dated filings; a current TTM field is not a multi-year trend.
- For dividend research, compare actual distributions with earnings and cash generation. Do not infer sustainability from yield alone.
- Illustrative cash-flow check: operating cash flow 100 minus capex 40 gives 60 under that definition; distributions 70 exceed it. This flags further review, not a prediction of a cut.
- Preserve unknowns and currency/unit differences. Forecast EPS is not reported EPS.
A repeatable screening sequence
Step 1
Define the universe
Choose the exchanges, sectors, price range, and market-cap range before reviewing results.
Step 2
Set tradeability constraints
Use available price and volume filters, then inspect spreads and order size separately. A volume threshold does not guarantee a fill.
Step 3
Record the timestamp
A ranked list changes with market data. Save when the screen ran and which values were available.
Step 4
Inspect each candidate
Open the chart and verify spreads, filings, events, and data quality before defining any entry rule.
Limits of a ranked stock screen
A screen describes the candidates that match selected fields at a selected time. It cannot establish future returns, execution quality, or suitability for an account. Verify source dates and inspect material company or market events separately. The linked free screener requests company results, quotes, financial metrics and analyst estimates; it does not generate an AI Score. Enrichment can be missing, and its observation date may differ from the request time. The separate AI Picker displays provider score snapshots with plan-dependent access. These pages describe a manual research process, not an automatically applied preset or brokerage execution.

Frequently asked questions
- Can a high AI Score identify a long-term compounder?
- It cannot establish that conclusion. Danelfin describes its score around relative performance over a three-month horizon. Long-term ownership requires separate business, valuation and portfolio research.
- Which P/E range is best?
- No fixed range establishes value. Sector, leverage, cyclicality and the earnings denominator matter; peak-cycle profits can make a vulnerable business look inexpensive.
- Can I screen by sector?
- Yes, the linked screener offers sector and company filters. Read each returned field before assuming every condition was applied; this guide does not automatically configure a preset.
- Do analyst estimates prove earnings visibility?
- No. The tool requests an estimate record when available. Coverage counts and low/average/high forecasts are inputs, not guarantees, and one record does not establish a revision trend.
- Does large market capitalisation protect the investment?
- No. It describes equity market value. Large companies can lose value, cut dividends or take on excessive debt.
