How to Change Line to Candle in TradingView: Complete Guide for Traders

To change a TradingView line chart to standard candlesticks, open the chart-type menu and select Candles. Confirm that you selected standard candles rather than Heikin Ashi or another transformed chart type.

Switch the Chart Type

On Supercharts web or desktop, use the chart-type selector on the upper toolbar. Select Candles and inspect the result. TradingView's line-chart guide documents that selector and notes that a line's source can be changed; line charts do not invariably use only the close.

On mobile, open the chart-type control available in the current chart interface. Its placement can differ by app version and screen size. Do not confuse drawing tools with chart types. If you cannot find it, consult the current app help instead of assuming a template must be detached.

What Candles Show

A standard candle represents open, high, low and close for the chosen interval. The body spans open to close, and the wicks show the remaining range. A candle alone does not reveal the sequence of all intrabar trades or prove who controlled the market.

ViewUseful informationLimitation
LineA selected price value per intervalHides other values in that interval
Standard candlesOHLC and the interval's rangeDoes not show the complete intrabar path
Heikin AshiTransformed values for a different visual viewValues are not ordinary traded OHLC

A long wick is an observation, not a guaranteed reversal. Choosing candles does not make an entry more accurate without a separately tested rule.

Save and Verify

Save the intended layout, reopen it and check the chart type. Autosave must actually be enabled if you rely on it. In a multi-chart layout, select the intended pane before changing its type.

If candles are hard to see, inspect zoom, bar spacing and candle visibility/color settings. Test a clean layout before resetting one that contains valuable drawings. A missing candle body is not enough evidence to blame an extension or delete local data.

Check Indicators Separately

Switching between an ordinary line view and standard candles does not create new OHLC history. Pine can still access chart data independently of which ordinary visual style displays it. See the chart-information documentation for the available values.

A switch to a non-standard chart type can affect calculations and backtests. If using a custom indicator generated with Pineify, compare its input data and output before interpreting a visual difference as a new trading signal.

Common Questions

How do I return to a line? Use the same chart-type menu and select Line.

Does a candlestick pattern prove a profitable trade? No. Define the entry, exit and costs, then evaluate the rule. This guide provides no verified pattern hit rate.

Will my phone and desktop always display the same view? Save and reopen the same layout in the same account, then verify it. Do not assume every app setting synchronizes automatically.
