What is a Satoshi?
A Satoshi (often abbreviated as "sats") is the smallest unit of the Bitcoin cryptocurrency. It is named after Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin.
Just as a dollar is divisible into 100 cents, a single Bitcoin is divisible into 100,000,000 (one hundred million) Satoshis. This high divisibility facilitates micro-transactions and ensures that Bitcoin remains usable even as its price increases.
- 1 Satoshi = 0.00000001 BTC
- 100 Million Satoshis = 1 BTC
