What Is a Historical Index Full Chart?
A historical index full chart provides comprehensive end-of-day (EOD) price data for stock market indexes such as the S&P 500 (^GSPC), Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI), and NASDAQ Composite (^IXIC). It includes open, high, low, close (OHLC) prices, trading volume, volume-weighted average price (VWAP), and daily price changes. Data Fields Explained
Open / High / Low / Close
The four key prices for each trading day. Open is the first trade price, High and Low are the extremes, and Close is the final settlement price used in most analyses.
Volume
The total number of shares or contracts traded during the day. Higher volume often confirms the strength of a price move and indicates greater market participation.
VWAP
Volume-Weighted Average Price represents the average price weighted by volume throughout the day. It is widely used by institutional traders as a benchmark for execution quality.
Change
The absolute point change from the previous trading day's close. Positive values indicate the index gained, while negative values indicate a decline.
Change %
The percentage change from the previous close. This normalizes the movement across different index levels, making it easier to compare performance across time periods.
Date
The trading date for each data point. Data is provided for each market trading day, excluding weekends and market holidays.
