What Is a Form 13F Filing?
Form 13F is a quarterly report filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) by institutional investment managers who oversee at least $100 million in qualifying assets. These filings disclose the manager's equity holdings, including stocks, ETFs, convertible notes, and certain options. Form 13F filings are a critical source of transparency in the financial markets, allowing investors and analysts to track the buying and selling activity of major hedge funds, mutual funds, pension funds, and other large institutional investors.
Our free Form 13F Filing Dates tool lets you look up the quarterly filing schedule for any institutional investor by their SEC CIK (Central Index Key) number. This helps you know exactly when a fund's holdings data becomes available, so you can analyze their latest positions as soon as the filing is published.

Understanding 13F Filing Schedules
Institutional investment managers are required to file Form 13F within 45 days after the end of each calendar quarter. This means filings for Q1 (January–March) are due by mid-May, Q2 (April–June) by mid-August, Q3 (July–September) by mid-November, and Q4 (October–December) by mid-February of the following year. However, many large institutions file well before the deadline.
By tracking 13F filing dates, investors can anticipate when new holdings data will become available and plan their research accordingly. This is particularly valuable for following "smart money" strategies, where retail investors analyze the positions of successful hedge fund managers like Warren Buffett, Ray Dalio, or Michael Burry to inform their own investment decisions.
