What is an Economic Impact Planner?
An Economic Impact Planner is a personalized tool for traders to track and analyze economic events that affect their trading decisions. Unlike generic economic calendars that show every event, this planner lets you focus on events that matter to your specific markets and strategies.
By recording actual market reactions and your trading outcomes, you build a personal database of how different events impact your trading. Over time, this helps you make better-informed decisions about when to trade and when to stay out of the market.
How to Use This Tool
- Add Events: Click "Add Event" to manually enter economic events, or use "Import" to upload a CSV/JSON file with multiple events.
- Set Impact Levels: Assign High, Medium, or Low impact levels based on how much you expect the event to move your markets.
- Tag Currencies: Select which currencies or markets will be affected by each event.
- View Calendar or Timeline: Switch between calendar view for monthly planning or timeline view for a chronological list.
- Record Reactions: After each event, update it with the actual market reaction and your trading result (Profit/Loss/Neutral).
- Export Data: Download your events as JSON for backup or analysis in other tools.
Why Track Economic Events Personally?
Generic economic calendars treat all traders the same. But a forex trader cares about different events than a stock trader. A day trader needs different information than a swing trader.
- Focus on What Matters: Only track events relevant to your markets and timeframes.
- Build Personal Insights: Learn how specific events typically affect your trading over time.
- Improve Risk Management: Know when to reduce position sizes or avoid trading entirely.
- Create Accountability: Recording your predictions vs. actual outcomes builds discipline.
Understanding Impact Rules
The Impact Rules feature lets you define patterns that automatically suggest impact levels and affected currencies when you add new events. For example, you can create a rule that any event containing "FOMC" or "Fed" is automatically tagged as High impact affecting USD.
Default rules cover major events like interest rate decisions, NFP, GDP releases, and CPI data. You can customize these or add your own rules based on your trading experience.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my data stored on your servers?
No. All data is stored exclusively in your browser's local storage. Nothing is ever sent to any server. This means your trading plans and results remain completely private.
What file formats can I import?
You can import CSV or JSON files. CSV files should have columns for date, time, name, impact, currencies (separated by semicolons), and notes. JSON files should be an array of event objects.
Can I use this for stocks, not just forex?
Absolutely. While the currency selector shows major currencies, you can use the notes field to track any market. The tool is designed to be flexible for any trading style.
What happens if I clear my browser data?
Your events will be deleted. We recommend using the Export feature regularly to back up your data. You can then import it again if needed.
Does this sync across devices?
No, since data is stored locally in your browser, it doesn't sync across devices. However, you can export your data from one device and import it on another.
